I thought this list of the top ten counties voting for McCain in 2008 from http://jeffmatherphotography.com/dispatches/2008/11/election-results-2008-factoid-edition/ is kind of interesting:

1. King County, Texas (93% — margin=143)
2. Ochiltree County, Texas (92% — 2,608)
3. Roberts County, Texas (92% — 436)
4. Glasscock County, Texas (90% — 450)
5. Beaver County, Oklahoma (89% — 1,932)
6. Cimarron County, Oklahoma (88% — 967)
7. Hansford County, Texas (88% — 1,608)
8. Oldham County, Texas (88% — 711)
9. Motley County, Texas (88% — 455)
10. Borden County, Texas (88% — 276)

Like I told my sister, from Hansford County, you can drive to the county seats of five of the other nine counties in the list and return on a single tank of gas.

My precinct only had one vote for Obama.

I know an Obama voter in Hansford county. That's not something just anyone can say.

There was only one Obama voter in my precinct in 2008.

I'd guess that a fair number of those who did vote for Obama in the county are older folks who didn't so much vote for Obama as much as voting for the Democrat Party.

During the primaries, I told a joke about the Democrats on a couple of occasions that really made some old folks mad. One of them had always been pretty friendly before but now doesn't seem to want to say any more to me than a polite "Hello".

My granddad was like that. He stood with the GOP on almost every aspect. He served on a sub for about 12 years during the cold war, ran a small business for a while after that and constantly *****ed about taxes and welfare. Yet he would only vote for democrats because of the stories his folks told him from the depression as well as the parts he could remember about it (born 1930).
