Will be passing through Childress next week and need a place for supper. Any suggestions? What is Girabaldi (sp)like? Tried K-Bob and not to crazy about it. Thanks,

If you're on 287, go to Chillicothe and eat at Love's--pulled pork sandwich, then peach cobbler with ice cream. Good stuff.

Sounds good. Do you know if they are open in the evenings--say 6 or 7?

They are. Stay open until at least 7:00. They're on the north side of the road, dumpy little building, but good stuff.

Forgot to add on the sandwich--get the jalapeno cheese sourdough bun.

I'll have to add them to my list, thanks from me, too.

What about that steak house in Quanah? Years ago, someone moved a railroad depot next to 287 and put in a steak house. It was pretty good, but it has been years since we ate there. I've heard it has gone downhill or even closed.

And why are you passing through, just out of pure nosiness?

Passing thru on way to Albq from College Station to see family. The steak place in Quanah was closed and shuttered the last time (about year ago) that we passed by.

Have you ever driven the route from Lubbock to Roscoe to Abilene, Cross Plains, etc.?

I-27
US 84
Tex 36
Etc.

It's about the same distance as the 287 route, but you avoid Ft. Worth traffic.

Forgot to note on the cobbler/ice cream--the owner makes both, and I don't know what they do with the ice cream, but it's outstanding. Maybe it's Mexican vanilla, but the combo with the cobbler is killer.

Would also add they apparently don't have their liquor license, so they compensate by having complimentary beer/wine. The wine's not the highest quality, of course, but it's free, so hard to complain. Plus, it comes in a styrofoam cup. That's when you know you're not in the big city anymore.
