Amarillo Paper
quote:
A scientist whose work on water conservation and efficiency made colleagues around the world take notice of the agricultural laboratory at Bushland is retiring as the lab’s director.

Terry Howell, who has put in more than 34 years of service at federal facilities, arrived in the early 1980s at the U.S. Department of Agriculture Conservation and Production Research Laboratory in Bushland. This week is his last there.

The above scientist may or may not be a TexAgs poster, but I'll let him reveal himself if he wishes.

Congrats on a great career, Terry, enjoy your retirement.

Real proud of the incredible career my dad had. Hate that I won't have my parents Amarillo home to visit anymore, but I'm excited that he and mom are starting the next phase of life...

Rocky- are you in TN now? I live in Chattanooga now (I call it the anti-Amarillo)- trees and hills.

Thanks CanyonAg, I wasn't really wanting to retire yet, but family conditions and other situations pointed that way. I'll miss the Panhandle! Sure enjoyed my job and trying to help producers survive in this country.

Ag Eng92- I am originally from middle TN and all my family is still there. I did my M.S. in College Station and Ph.D. at WT in Canyon. You are correct in that middle/east TN is the "anti-Panhandle" ! We enjoyed our time out there but we sure missed trees, hills, rain, bodies of water, etc. We're in North Louisiana now.

Congrats to your dad!

I have been fortunate enough to work with/for Terry for the last few years and I can attest that he will definitely be missed. He is a great scientist and even better person!

Worked for him a couple years ago... he was a good man and a good boss. Still say that my ARS job was the best I ever had during my college career.
