Staying overnight in Amarillo in a few weeks on the way to Colorado. Recommendations for the best brisket and ribs.

There was a place in the Texas monthly article. Heard its good, plan to try it. I have never had good BBQ in Amarillo area.

It's Tyler's on Paramount just south of I-40. It's an old Long John Silver's building painted red.

Have to go early in the day. He only makes enough for each day and if you go after 6, he may be out or running low.

And here's an old thread about Amarillo and Canyon. Scroll down to find my directions to Johnson Mesa on the way to Colorado.

Definitely worth it if you like back roads.

Tyler's is the only acceptable BBQ in Amarillo.

I haven't been to Tylers. It opened after I left for college.

When I was in HS, my friends and I ate at Crazy Larrys on Teckla all the time. My sister is head of marketing for the Venom and she gets to eat there for free now. It's so good.

Granted it's not like Tylers or Fargos, it's kind of fast food BBQ but it's so good. Get the brisket frito pie.

My cousins own Fat Boys BBQ in Canyon. It's pretty darn good, too.
