I'll be bringing a group of Boy Scouts back from summer camp on July 2 and due to travel restrictions apply we need a place to overnight near Abilene. Sweetwater area could also work, but I'd like to make it a little closer to Austin so we can get back before noon on Sunday.

We weren't planning to have tents in the trailer (camp in CO provides them) so a I'd like to find a facility (chuch, gym, lodge, etc.) With restrooms.

Any thoughts or ideas are appreciated.

Does the military still allow scouts to overnight? There is Dyess AFB in Abilene. And there are at least two colleges in Abilene. Lake Brownwood has cabins and a lodge, but 4th of July weekend, no way you could get reservations.

Lake Abilene State Park has screened shelters and one cabin.

Camp Tonkawa south of Abilene in Buffalo gap is the local Boy Scout facility
