Pablo, my daughter lived in the Overton area... it's OK. I'm not big on dog **** in the hallway or stairs or having my daughters car broken into twice in a year. The hotel is $500 a night.

Like Moore said, you're full of it... grossly exaggerating

The redevelopment area is damn nice. If there was someone selling drugs there, so be it. You don't think you find that in college station? Give me a break.

And your daughter saw a dog turd on the hallway floor. Oh the horror. You think students at A&M don't have dogs that crap In the sidewalk, and in the apartment hallway? What is your sample? Where your kid lived? Lol

And I have stayed at the Overton several times. I paid nowhere near $500. You need to learn to negotiate better

Four people in a car travel and a fraction of the cost, and much less hassle, then four people on a plane
My wife drives from here to El Paso and to Albuquerque (5 hours to both) rather than deal with the airport hassles (having to go through DFW or Austin to get ANYWHERE except Las Vegas sucks).

Ha, next time I'm there I'd be happy to post pictures. It is true... those apartments around the Overton are complete dumps and not occupied by college students. I think it has a lot to do with the crime in that area.

That is a lie

You're telling me the apartments at the village at Overton are not college students????

Bwahahahahaha!!!!

When the basketball team was good... the whole point of this thread is that a change needs to be made. When was the last time tech had 100K for a football game??? Or even a full stadium after half time (referring to the great college town comment).

The area South of campus is really nice... beautiful homes.

The only time the Overton is anywhere close to $500 is game weekends and graduation.....exactly the same as B/CS. And probably any other college town.

Actually my daughter didn't mention the dog **** until I pointed it out and it was everywhere... hallways, mostly stairwells and yes of course outside in grass and sidewalks.

You guys can defend it all you want.

I've seen it first hand...

And yes, Lubbock crime rate is considerably higher than average city its size.

The stadium is full when the team is good, same as at A&M.

100K? Of course not. The school and the alumni base aren't as big as A&M's either. Comparing apples to much smaller apples.

And yes, and change needs to be made. Everyone sees that but the AD...and I suspect he does too, and it's only a matter of getting through this season.

Lubbock, TX crime analytics. With a crime rate of 63 per one thousand residents, Lubbock has one of the highest crime rates in America compared to all communities of all sizes - from the smallest towns to the very largest cities. One's chance of becoming a victim of either violent or property crime here is one in 16.

LOL....a guy who comes to SOME games and comes to Lubbock SOME times v. a guy with season tix that lives here.

Did you come to the games when Leach was here, the 2008 tu game for example, and winning games and seasons? What was Tech's record this year, or last, or the year before? NOT winning.

"Hi I'm Pablo- welcome to the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce."

I'm sure Overton is well built, but it isn't even close to the high end shopping, food, entertainment at Century Square in College Station. One hotel restaurant and a Chili's? congrats.

B/CS is pushing 300,000 in its metro area, and has the better University, homes, shopping, restaurants, golf/clubs, entertainment, climate, geography and access to major metro centers in Texas.

The only people that sell Lubbock are the folks stuck there. Congrats on being 8.5 hours from Colorado skiing and 4-5 hours from the rest of Texas.

Violent crime is going down. Property crime is going up.

Thanks to a liberal mayor that promotes Lubbock to homeless people.

But like all towns, even B/CS, there are areas that you *just shouldn't go into* and other areas that are perfectly fine.

Does an 8-hour drive to Colorado count as a plus? I can get there in half that time driving to IAH from CS and taking a flight to Colorado.

Southern Colorado has some of the best snow in all the Rockies. From IAH it will take you about 8 hours by plane + car to get to Wolf Creek Pass unless your flying in a private jet.

But since you went there. From Lubbock you can arrive at Denver airport at 6:50am(local) in the morning and be parked at the base of a ski slope before the first lift starts up. And you can roll out of bed in Lubbock about 50 minutes before the flight takes off and still get in your airplane seat without being out of breath. You can ski until 6pm and easily be back at the Denver airport to catch a flight back and be back inside your house in Lubbock asleep by 11:30pm the same day.

Speaking of Lubbock, Denver, and Aggie Baseball. We don't have a single player on the roster from the pan handle or Colorado. But we do have Coach McMillan, who graduated from Tech.

So Lubbock is better than CS because somebody can fly to Colorado to ski for one day?

I'm just saying that it is a stretch to say that it is a plus to live in Lubbock because you are an 8- hour drive to a Colorado ski slope.

BTW, isn't there a direct flight from Dallas to Durango?

Colorado will let you stay as many days as you want. But yes. People that live in locations like Lubbock(and Dallas) can and do go on one day ski trips because flights allow you to be there from open to close. It's a great way to get some skiing in without having to pay for an overnight and be away from your family.

I listed southern colorado skiing as simply one of several advantages, which included much closer NM skiing, which as noted, when the snow is good like this year, the NM skiing is really really good and cheaper than CO.

And yes, Dallas to Durango has a nonstop. But you mentioned IAH. Hop, do you really now want to turn this thread into a why Dallas is better than Houston thread

But hey I digress. I chose BCS over Lubbock. My parents lived just a few minutes from the Tech campus while I was in college. Yet, they couldn't convince me not to go to Aggieland. But they did take me skiing every Christmas break I was in college

Not true, I was happy to be there as a part of the school activities... but to pick out one area of campus (The Overton) as an excuse for basketball and baseball recruiting or saying Lubbock has all the amenities of B/CS isn't accurate. I'll stop short of calling you and truck a liar (which you both have done to me in lieu of an actual valid argument) and just write it off to having dust in your eyes.

Hey, we have gorgeous sunsets, too. Just ask Steven Spielberg.

AND we have a Cheesecake Factory now, too, so there's that.

Lubbock just crossed over that magic 300,000 mark (do those numbers include students? I have never gotten a good answer for that) which seems to be a big deal for developing the things you mention.

OK, define "actual valid argument" then.

" to pick out one area of campus (The Overton) as an excuse for basketball and baseball recruiting " I'm not even sure what that means, so I must have lost something along the way.

I never said Lubbock as all the amenities of B/CS. B/CS has Texas A&M with 60,000 students and all that comes with it. Lubbock and TT aren't there yet. But Lubbock isn't the hindrance to recruiting that many like to portray it being.

This thread sucks.

Good coaches went to Tech because in baseball and in basketball the Big Xii is a good conference. They didn't go there because of the area, housing, proximity to something else.

And I am saying Lubbock DOES have the amenities of College Station ....

I mean, yeah, 100,000 people don't go to football games there. Duh. The stadium doesn't hold 100,000 people

The school is not as good as A&M

But we're comparing Lubbock and College Station

As far as retail, off campus student housing availability, culinary, night life, hotel space, entertainment, green spaces, parks ... the 2 cities are comparable, and I would DEFINITELY say Tech's Overton area is better and more student friendly than A&M's Northgate

There are differences, And each has pluses that the other one doesn't

A&M is far more convenient to cities with a population of 1 million or more.

Tech is far more convenient to Mountain recreation

As far as climate, I like the west Texas climate better than East Central Texas. Some people don't, but I do. Hands-down.

This is certainly not to say that tech is better than A&M. It is not. Not by a long stretch

What I am saying is that tech and Lubbock or not nearly as bad as Aggies portray them, and in some ways are better than College Station

Thanks for proving my point. Again, when your team has had the records that KK's did, and you're getting clobbered, you don't expect it to get better and you bail. I'm pretty sure it happened at A&M during the Fran years, and there's probably some TexAg archived threads to prove it.

In the Leach years, when Tech was winning and playing fun exciting football, the stands were full enough to justify a stadium expansion. Then came Tubberville and KK and that enthusiasm went away.

WIn and they'll come. Lose and they stay away, or leave early. Happens pretty much every where in all sports.

Lubbock isn't for everyone, but a lot of folks that live here love it for a lot of reasons.

I was very impressed the way Tech fans travelled to NYC for the Tech/Duke basketball game at Madison Square Garden. They had something like 4-5,000 fans come up a week before Christmas. I met an old high school bud for drinks before the game who went to Tech. I showed up for drinks and it turns out they rented the entire bar for Tech fans. There were easily 500 Tech fans in the bar and they were pumped. Not only that, my buddy was part of group of fans that filled two charted 737s for the flight up. The flights sold out in less than 24 hours.

I have been to a few A&M basketball games up here and we have never come close to the same support. Not close, and some of those A&M teams were d@mn good. Fan apathy for A&M basketball has always been an issue, but the Tech support for the basketball was eye opening. We need to do better.

Lubbock is just a disaster. It is a truly terrible place and that campus and the area around it is really dumpy. For them to be this good really is shocking.
