Well, it's about time ...

Every time we go through Amarillo (usually about twice a year) it's always been interesting to look over and see how much more decrepit the old mall has become ...

I can remember when WP was the "new" mall in town (the older one being Sunset Center). I spent a lot of $ at WP in the 1970s (Woolco, Toys by Roy, Hastings, Radio Shack), and sat through numerous movies at the AMC Theatre ...

If you fly into Amarillo Int'l and then drive west on I-40, much of what you see of Amarillo from the road doesn't look all that great, at least until you get to the far west side of town ... they could really use a beautification effort for the parts of town that are along I-40 ...

That's kind of sad to see, but the inside was even worse.... especially after having the same memories you did of going there when I was a kid.

On the positive side, a nice new center is under construction at 34th & Soncy. By the way, the WP Mall will probably be demolished soon to make way for another new development.

Supposedly they're going to rebuild a new place for Grahm Central Station since that was the only place left there making money.

Furr's was the place to eat, back in the day.

The place really is an eyesore, glad to see it is getting demolished. Maybe the drainage issue in the area will get fixed as well.

I ate at a Furrs in Lubbock this past January - I didn't know they had gone to an all-you-can-eat format.

I was all worried about getting too many sides, extra butters, etc. Then a waitress came by and asked if we wanted anything else, my Dad had her bring a couple more rolls - to which I learned it is now all-you-can-eat - so, bring another round of CFS!!!!

A trip to Toys-by-Roy, sitting by the fountain, an early meal at Furr's (listening to the grand piano), and a movie.

That was a great Saturday outing when I was a kid in the 70's.

I had forgotten about the grand piano! Thanks for bringing back a rush of memories. My grandfather and I used to sneak out of church early to save seats for the family at Furrs for lunch.

Is there no one with fond memories of the Orange Julius stand at WP?

Horn, oh yes, I remember the Orange Julius. I was one of their best customers. How about the old Hole in the Wall restaurant? I played in a band there once.

Ha... I remember Orange Julius, too... I remember my parents loving it and I hated it (orange is my least favorite fruit flavor). Also remember how excited I'd get when I found out we were going to the BIG city of Amarillo (from Hereford LOL) because I knew that usually meant a trip to Toys By Roy.

I remember the Hole In The Wall, too.... spotted a few KVII people there off and on. Also remember Dad making the same old joke every time he paid about their "NO CHECKS" sign... "What about Pol's and Germans?"

That's really sad to see. I moved away from Amarillo (well, actually Canyon) when I was in the 2nd grade but I have countless memories of being at the WP with my grandparents.
