How was the quail hunting? And where did you go?

We went in Coleman over opening weekend. There are some birds. But I think they were left over from last year. I have not heard anyone from the ranch say that they saw any little birds during the summer.

Man it was not all that great. We went out near Petersburg on some property that had it great last year. The wind was up a good bit and I think that had a lot to do with it. We saw few but I didn't bust a covey all day (leftovers).

I was talking with the land owner and he had said he did not remember seeing any little ones either. I think the drought lasted a little too long for the young birds. I will be out thursday through sunday Hunting some other places. Hopefully with better luck

Report back if you don't mind.

I hear there are very few birds in the Childress area.

How did the hunting go this past weekend?

ended up on four seperate farms throughout the petersburg area. Busted about 6 coveys for the entire weekend. It was not that great. I just don't think it is going to be that good of a year. But I will continue to try. I am going on a Kansas Whitetail hunt next week and we will see how that goes.

Have you gone out yet? any luck?

Opening weekend we were in Coleman. About the same luck you had. There have been really good birds the last three years. So I suppose that is what we will be hunting this year.

I am sure that we will not kill many to leave seed for next year. But we will be hunting them.

I am getting excited about the pheasant hunt in Hart opening weekend. My buddy is seeing a lot of birds.

I am liking this cold front. It should help move some deer. I will be heading out first thing in the morning to do some Whitetail hunting in Kansas.

I have the decoys and a good lab, but I do not seem to get out as much as I should. I now live in New Waverly so I have opportunites on the Trinity River.

When I lived in Childress I went all the time. We had really good mallards. I am not sure I have seen one since I have been in East Texas. And it takes too long for any ducks to get down there in comparison to the Panhandle.

I hope you have a safe trip to Kansas. It is a mess here in Lubbock.

Yeah I am in lubbock right now and have been laughing my tail off at some of these people. It is pretty nasty.

We had a great hunt. We ended up with 65 the first day, and then several the second day but I am not sure how many. I had to leave early for my flight.

Damn it was cold though. I had forgotten how cold it can get when the wind blows. Maybe I am just getting older and my Panhandle blood has thinned since moving down to Houston.

Well that does happen when you get away from the cold for awhile. My clients and I had a pretty good hunt. I was there as an inspection so I did not take a shot on a buck. I left that for my clients. They did pretty well both shot the best deer of their lifetime. Saw some really good bucks everyday but the pictures that the lodge owner had from the earlier muzzleloader season had a brute in it. They had one score over 180 pretty easily. Great time and looking forward to doing some phasent hunting now. Still have a few deer tags I need to finish off but I will work on that next week.

Glad you had a good trip.
