Does anyone know when and where the Naz-Windthorst game will be this weekend?

I cannot believe they got past New Deal.

I would like to see them get past Windthorst, does anyone have any knowledge about the match-up?

On a side note, any of you Panhandle expatriates: The Amarillo paper does a pretty good job with their Amarillo.com web site. You have to register, but they don't spam.

"Panhandle Expatriate" wow, never thought about it, but that is exactly what I am.

I will register today. Thanks CanyonAg.

Is there any chance that Naz can stay on the field with Windthorst?

Prof- I got to watch 6-man all the time. My wife taught at Hedley when we first moved back home and they were starting their program. In HS we would go to playoff games after our season was over. It is a great game.

Not that this has anything to do with football, but I have a good story about Nazareth.

My uncle's family, who was living in Kress at the time but attending church in Plainview had a son in the 1st grade attending Sunday school. When the teacher was talking about Jesus of Nazareth and asking if anyone had heard of this, he chimed in, "yeah, Nazareth is where my dad goes to get beer!"

Is the area still "dry" up there?

Hale, Swisher and southern Randall Counties still dry. I suspect there's been little to no change in liquor laws since you left.

Hereford is no longer dry...if I'm not mistaken

It should be a good game, but the Swifts are going to have a hard time overcoming the Trojans. Top-ranked in the state, defending state champions, I think they've only trailed once this year.

Jeebus, Nazareth is good at football now? So they weren't happy going to state every year in basketball - now they have to do it in football too? They must have something in the water up there to make those kids so good in athletics on such a consistent basis.

And why did they split six-man into two divisions? I can understand the two division set up for bigger classifications, but when you're talking about high schools with 70 kids vs. high schools with 50 kids, is there really that much of a difference?

There is a large school and small school division in every class now. So there are 12 state champs:

2 each in class A through AAAAA
2 in class A six man

I don't think the divisions in the other classes matter near as much as six-man. When talking specifically about six-man, there is a huuuuuge difference between being able to suit 7 versus being able to suit 10. Also, the teams that can field a JV team tend to be much better than the ones that can't.

Division I and Division II are divided on the line that used to seperate 6-man and 8-man ball. (for the old-timers here)

On that note, Naz has such a low enrollment they are classified as a six-man school, but choose to play 11-man. That is why it is so amazing that they have so much success considering the number of kids.

It is that German work ethic that propels them to the top of the athletics world in each sport. A friend of mine was the head coach there for 15 years and said that he had never been around a bunch of kids that worked any harder and never had any discipline problems. You just had to over look the fact that they were going to be drinking beer during the season.

I talked to some folks back home. The kids in Naz believe that they can win tonite. I guess that is where it starts.

They are calling it the Kraut Bowl.

East Germany vs. West Germany.

Evidently the two Head Coaches were on the same staff several years ago.

Yes, they were both assistants here in Stamford when I was in elementary school. Bill Green from Windthorst went to our church and was in my dad's Sunday School class he taught at the time. His sons were terrors as little kids, and they've turned out to be terrors on the football field as well. Until I was talking to a friend at the Pizza Hut today at lunch, I didn't know that Ricky Peacock was the football coach at Nazareth. He was our boys basketball coach back in the day, and a pretty decent one, he's apparently become quite a football coach as well.

But tonight, the West Germans didn't quite have enough to overcome the might of the East Germans. Nazareth took a 14-13 lead to the locker room, but Coach Green got the boys from Windthorst kicked into gear at halftime and the undefeated and top-ranked defending state champion Trojans prevailed in convincing fashion, 41-14.

I played HS football for coaches Green and Peacock. I've kept up with Coach Green but didn't know Coach Peacock was a head football coach. Coach Green was always one hell of a football coach.

Probably not. We've "spoken" on texags before about Stamford, however. I went to school there from Nov. '92 to Nov. '93. My parents worked at the Hendrick Home near Lueders for that time frame. I played football in Stamford my Sr. year of high school.

I am glad to see that Northside is no longer getting the football rejects to keep Vernon's student enrollment within 3A limits.

Though I guess they have rules against that kind of thing now.

I think Killer-K is from everywhere north of Childress. I'm pretty sure, however, that he knows my dad and probably my grandparents, too.

Born in Tulia.

Lived in Hart but my Dad farmed in the Nazereth area and also South of Olton.

I also lived in Clarendon and practiced law in Childress a number of years before moving South.

So yeah, I know about a few areas of the Panhandle. I was up there last week in the snow and ice. I really miss that place. Especially the wonderful people in Childress, some of the best folks in Texas.
