My family and I moved to Canyon around 3 months ago. How active is the Canyon A&M club? I got an email from the prez but I don't believe it mentioned any scheduled club activities. Do they hold a local Muster or is that combined with the Amarillo A&M club's Muster each year?

We have a small Muster, 20-40 people. Unfortunately, it seems life interferes too much with club activities.

Part of the trouble is that there aren't a lot of older Ags. Perhaps as some of us get kids up and grown, and a little more time, we'll have more time for other activities.

Plus there are more local Ags in the younger classes...perhaps it will grow with time.

I too just moved to Canyon and was told that the Amarillo Area A&M Club had more activity and young folks.

This is the information that their president sent me before Christmas. The e-mail address he included for the club was amarilloamc@hosting.aggienetwork.com. Don't know how often that is checked though.

and Coulter. We're trying to get a place to watch the Bowl and I'll

I can understand life getting in the way of participating in the local club. I've tried to make an Amarillo club meeting but had other things come up.

I've noticed quite a few Association of Former Students stickers around town. I office with a couple of Ags in Canyon.

Can I ask what you do?

I don't mind one bit. I work with farmers and ranchers on an individual basis on marketing and risk management plans. Basically, we create a disciplined marketing plan and then execute the marketing of crops/cattle for our producers thru the use of cash/forward contracting, futures, and options (used as little as possible). Our focus is mainly grain crops (corn, milo, wheat), cotton, soybeans, and cattle.

That was probably more than you care to hear about my work but I am enthusiastic about what I do each day!

There are over 700 Former Students in Amarillo but we still only get about 30 for our monthly events. Muster is always a great turnout (usually 120 plus). We hold it at the Khiva Shrine in Downtown Amarillo.

This year we will have a golf tourney on Muster Saturday as well.

Interesting business, canyon99. My dad was a loan officer and branch manager for Rolling Plains PCA (now part of First Ag Credit) when I was growing up; he used to handle quite a few big cattle loans, and would always work with his customers to make sure they adequately managed their risks in what sounds like the same way that you do.

I work with two other Ags with one of them being the owner. We've got a few offices around the state. It's very enjoyable but is can also be stressful depending on the markets.
