Left Lubbock at 7:45 this morning and it was 40 degrees. Got to Amarillo and it was 21 degrees with freezing rain/drizzle and a brisk north wind. It was really getting icy when we left. Fortunately, it wasn't as bad as we headed south back to Lubbock.

It was 75 here North of Houston today.

It's a cold wench in Lubbock today. I went to Starbucks this morning (probably not the best idea) and slid a couple of times, even with my pickup in four-wheel drive.

This fine mist/drizzle that's freezing on contact is making things pretty dangerous up here.

If it ices over down here, this Panhandle Expatriot is sitting at the house.

There is no telling what these idiots will do on ice.

As for me, I've driven in ice more than a few times, so I just kick my pickup into four-wheel drive and cruise along.

I love this weather because it gives me a good reason to wear my black cowboy hat and my heavy-duty Carhartt ranch coat. I wear a cowboy hat fairly often anyway, but in this weather it and my ranch coat seem to give me a bit of an authoritative flair.

As I would probably be that idiot driving today if I decided that it would be a good idea to venture out, I am staying firmly indoors where it is warm. So, know that there is one less idiot of the road today.

I'm friends with a good number of folks from Lueders-Avoca, but dang, there are some hillbillies and outlaws living down there in the breaks of the Clear Fork of the Brazos.

Wow!

Seems warmer today than yesterday in Lubbock. Not really a big deal to drive in this morning as long as you stay away from Tech. Those students from Dallas, Houston and Austin who've never seen ice outside of their tea glasses can make any driving hazardous, but especially in these conditions.
