We got a couple of inches of snow, and almost all of that came today from mid-morning to mid-afternoon..
It certainly had the makings of a huge snowstorm, but a pocket of air that was slightly above freezing settled over the South Plains area, in the lower levels of the atmosphere between the surface and the snow-laden clouds. The snow was falling from the sky, but it was all melting before it could get to the surface. Instead of a huge snowstorm, we got a day and a half solid of rain, freezing rain, and sleet before today's snow.
It turned out to be overblown, but I think unexpected atmospheric factors caused that more than incompetent meteorology.
