The following picture is reported to be the getaway that T. Boone Pickens is building south of Perryton.

This place is about 7 miles off hwy. 70. His place starts on the south side of the Canadian River, and goes back west. I'm told he has over $14 million sunk already.

He also has a personal golf course.

Story goes that this is where the deal went down (maybe not this house - but the old ranch headquarters) where he gave all the donations to osu - big party that where the alcohol flowed and the donation level just kept getting higher and higher.

It is kind of weird driving down Hwy 70 and see a big corporate jet fly over and land out in the middle of nowhere....

That is not what I would ever expect to see near Hwy 70.

Holy Crap! I may have to seek that out the next time I am up in Pampa

Unless you are flying - you won't be able to 'seek' it out - that is, unless you are not above trespassing.....it is only accessible via private roads...

The place where Pickens built this is in Roberts County. Quite pretty actually

Probably the electric bills would be lower than in the rest of the state where the electricity market is unregulated and we lucky slobs are paying $0.13 to $0.14 per kWh for electric service ...

No, as far as I know he doesn't have any 'connection' with Perryton or Pampa (ranch lies between the two towns). I think he may have bought it when he had Mesa in Amarillo - over the past few years it seems it has become his 'pet project'. I guess he wants a place where he can stare at all his new enerby wind turbines while sucking down the Ogallala!

I hear his ranch has no cattle on it - it is just a ‘wildlife resource center’ of sorts for OSU.

I think his wife received the 2B Ranch (the half on the east side of Hwy 70) in a divorce settlement a few years ago - not sure if he has purchased it back or if another Dallas tycoon (maybe doctor?) owns it now. The land (actually larger ranch than Pickens’) on the north side of the river belongs to another oil baron (who is a Perryton native).

Harold Corson is the oil/gas tycoon that is north of him.

Pickens has all kinds of investments in the Panhandle including oil/gas in that area. Water rights and now his wind energy deals. Has more money than sense.

A company I'm interviewing with is building a 5 million dollar runway on that property so that cheny and bush can fly in for hunting.

I just found out that is no longer Boone Pickens place. Grumbling around town is that it was just sold to John Travolta. Don't know the truth but it came from someone who drilled the water wells on that place.

The tail number on Travolta's 707 is "707JT". I think he has more than one airplane. The 707 hasn't landed in the area since at least May 2, 2007, if ever. Unless he was flying VFR.

travolta supposedly bought a ranch next to boone....b/c of the very expensive landing strip that boone is putting in and travolta likes to fly his planes.

i dont think boone will be selling it any time soon, its his baby and has worked hard on it...

the word on the street that i've heard - who knows. its some piece of property though
