I was just curious if they still had Hex Day at Canyon HS, or if that fun tradition has been done away with ...

Hex Day at CHS dated back at least to the '60s, and was (as best I recall) on the Friday before Halloween. The idea was for students to come to school in costume or disguise (preferably handcrafted, witty, zany or outlandish -- sort of like the contestants on the game show Let's Make a Deal!), so as to put a "hex" on the Eagle's football opponent that week. (Did the hex work? In the 60s and 70s, at least, usually not. But that was beside the point ...) I don't recall anyone dressing as witches, ghosts, ghouls or the like, as that would have been considered "kid stuff" and would invite such comments as ("Hey, you forgot your treat bag!" "Don't forget to say 'thank you'", etc.) Likewise, I don't remember anyone in town having religious objections to HD back then ...
