So they just announced that Abilene High is going to be in a new district that is going to be to the east of Abilene and Cooper is being downgraded to a 4A. Wow, talk about a shakeup. Cooper is going to be in Big Spring's district now and somehow Wylie stays a 3A.

And now, the Lil' SWC has finally gone away. Truly sad.

There is a lot of rumbling going on in Sweetwater today about Wylie still being 3A. To add fuel to the fire now we have to deal with Brownwood as well.

What was the dividing line between 3 and 4A? Where did Wylie fit in that?

I have wondered this myself. I have always heard rumors of how they would somehow be a few people below the cutoff line every time around.

Now the cutoff is 979. It was either in the Sweetwater paper or somewhere I had heard that the previous cutoff was 950 and Wylie is around 956 now so the new numbers kept them in our district. My wife's at the high school and said the kids were excited when they announced the new district over the intercom because Sweetwater and Snyder are back together. That is one positive from realignement, but that's three pretty tough games; Snyder, Wylie and Brownwood, plus we didn't exactly manhandle Breckenridge this year.

Here is the list of what used to be the Little SWC-

New DISTRICT 2-5A

Amarillo

Amarillo Tascosa

Lubbock

Lubbock Coronado

Lubbock Monterey

Midland

Midland Lee

Odessa

Odessa Permian

San Angelo Central

They have one non conf game and then, game on for making the playoffs. Good to see the bobkitties get to play MAF and Odessa, but wish ABL was still in the conf.

Think about the travel costs now......

The travel costs aren't different really. Those are the teams Midland and Odessa schools used to play predistrict games against.

In 04 we played:

Lubbock Coronado
El Paso Coronado
Lubbock Monterey
San Angelo Central
Amarillo

Odessa Permian
Abiline High
Abiline Cooper
Midland Lee
Odessa High

somebody said it somewhere else on here, its not the football games, its the twice weekly basketball and the volleyball games that will kill the kids.

As someone who grew up in mostly Midland and some in Monahans from the mid 60's to the mid 80's it kills me that the "old SWC district" in no longer around. Sure the Midland and Odessa schools along with San Angelo will still play each other but it stinks that the 2 Abilene schools are no longer part of the mix. Heck I was upset years ago when Big Spring was moved out of 5A and down to 4A and was no longer part of the Odessa, Midland, San Angelo and Abilene district. We just don't have the history against the Lubbock and Amarillo schools but it does make one heck of a district now at least in regard to size. Is it fair that a 10 team district will get no more playoff spots as some of the 7 or 8 team districts. I am sure it is hard to make it fair all around when you have such a big state to divide. Is Abilene not growing enough with kids that the high schools are losing enrollment. Too bad one of them had to move down to 4A. Even the game between the 2 Abilene schools does not have the same meaning anymore.
