I heard you definitely don't want to live on the North side of Abilene.

good lord....

Nothing wrong with the north side. Some areas are not acceptable, but others are fine. Out near ACU are some nice apartments.

Some being built right now all around town. Look around.

Newport Village, west of the Mall, south of Lowes....gated with security that lives there. Most all of the apts around the mall are nice, Indian Run seems to have some sorrys living there, but not many.

The two complexes on N. Judge Ely tend to rent to anyone and experience alot of trouble.

yeah, it runs from ES 11th up to I20. It runs along the east side of ACU's campus.

Don't look into the Grove. They are the new ones just north of ACU by I-20.

Every one of my friends that moved in has had complaints...they promised everyone they could move in a week before classes in the fall, weren't done, and all the residents stayed in hotels for a week. The complex didn't have cable or internet until 6 weeks into the semester, work orders don't get taken care of in a reasonable time (gf's dishwasher was broken and didnt get fixed until 4 weeks after they told submitted the work order), etc, etc.

Look at Canterbury Apartments or the fairly new ones on Old Anson Road, just south of the interstate.

I lived in the Anson Apartments for a year and a half. They were not too bad, especially for the price that you would pay. Many families and college students live in those apartments, so I really enjoyed the atmosphere.

I live on the northside(near ACU, or more affectionately known as 'on the hill') right now and I can tell you that with all the construction on 20 and in and aroud town it sucks getting back to the south end (that's where most businesses are). It takes me like 12-15 min's just to get to B-dub's. My advice is to look over by Southwest drive and the apartments that are over behind the movie theatre and Red Robin and the sort. Know several young singles who live over there and like it.

What are you moving to Abilene for?

I lived in Indian Run for 4 months, the apartment itself was not all that bad, but nothing special. It did have some signs of age-ing on it. My biggest complaints were the thin walls, which were too be expected in apartments. I had a one bedroom and paid somewhere near 550 a month (but had a 3 month lease so it costs more, and I had a good size place). I did have a terrible time finding a place to live though, Abilene does not have that many apartments. Oh, and another thing, about the neighbors, some seem really sketch, while others seem nice. I had some drug dealer that lived next door to me (with her 2 year old kid). Not my ideal neighbors, but she was always nice but her friends seemed really sketch (comes with being a drug dealer) but I never had any problems with them other than that (and one night when they had their stereo on the patio blasting at 3 AM on a Thursday, but again, could happen anywhere).

My apartment also got crickets in it, quite a few of them actually at one point. But it seemed like the whole Abilene was affected by the invasion last year, and it wasnt just an isolated thing in my place.

My SO moved down after my 4 months, and we ended up renting a house because it was better than all of the aparments....for 150 more, we have a 3 bed 2 bath place further south that is a newer place. Cant complain (minus Abilene truly sucks)

Its just that the town has no entertainment, there are probably 5 bars at most, all of which suck, no variety of restaurants, and absolutely nothing to do if you are sitting around the house.

i live in Abilene and have never heard of this ranch and cannot tell you one non chain place to eat at......

you're never here on the weekends
to much trouble to drive out to Buffalo Gap
you've only found chain places to eat where some really special local establishments exist
did you get plugged into our very active A&M club
have you been to any of the museums or historical sites in the area

true
we're probably short on bars for young people
I know there's more than 5 though, trust me
we definitely don't have the concerts
sometimes (more often usually) the newspaper is lacking
sometimes the school board and city council have their head up their butts
but this town if full of really exceptional people
some of us really like it here
and I've lived all over Texas and the US

if the job is that bad, hurry up and leave

im never going to downplay the people of west texas, they truly are great people....so dont get me wrong about that. Honestly, I am looking for a job elsewhere, because I am still young, and I do like things that bigger cities offer.

I am not looking for a bar to go out to get drunk out, I am looking for one to enjoy a good beer on a patio that is not playing loud music. I could care less about concerts, nor do I care about the newspapers.

I do enjoy the lack of traffic, and the climate here.....but there are no restaurants other than American (BBQ included), Mexican, and Italian. But....I dont eat out much...probably once a week at most.

Oh well, to each their own I guess.....
