speaking of wind, the last few days here in CS has reminded me of Odessa in April

Why?

I get asked this all the time, and I tell people unless you are from there, you just cannot appreciate what it is like to be back there.

On the subject of the wind, I have to say this whole spring has been similar to spring in WT. Out at the softball park Tuesday night reminded me of playing at the UTPB complex.

Oh no, I definitely would have understood and not had to question why if his username was MidlandAg and he had said he missed Midland. But Odessa?!

But seriously, I know what you mean, people who grew up in Houston just can't fathom why anyone misses WT and would like to live there again. You just can't explain it and don't know unless you're from there.

Please don't take my use of your post of why? as a shot at you. It is just simply the first word out of everyone's mouth when I say Odessa.

I must admit Odessa is not what it was back in the early 1980s when I left. For instance, Praire Pete Park is a hollow shell of what it was when I had my 8th birthday party there. I truly hope with $140 oil, there will continue to be more and more business investment and tax revenue to improve both Midland and Odessa, but especially Odessa.

Yeah I love it when I go back to see family and seeing all the new shopping centers, etc. popping up all over. Not to mention look at all the housing threads started about people moving out that way.
OdessaAg

And you gotta love the new Hooters there also right?

I've never been, it was opened after I went off to school. But ya know, I'm actually a little afraid to see what sort of talent (or lack there of) works there. I mean I just really can't see many hot, young, Hooteresque waitresses actually working there since Midland/Odessa is such a conservative town and most of the good looking women have either gone away to school and never came back, or wouldn't want to be known around town as "the Hooter girl". I'm probably wrong though. We all know WT produces some great looking women.

Has anyone been and give a full report?

I agree OdessaAg. I live in CS now, but was born and raised in Odessa. The last few days here have reminded me of Odessa, minus the sand and brown sky. I miss a couple of things about living out there, but overall, i don't miss it at all. This is a great place to be. My saying is that "Odessa is a great place to be from."

I've been to the hooters actually, and really am not at all impressed. There really wasnt many "hooteresque" girls at all, and I dont really like seeing all the t-shirt sips all around there neither

Sorta related, although I don't miss Odessa.

Did any one ever notice that when it rained in CS that there were always a lot of west Texans on the porches watching it rain? The east Texans did car it was just another rain. But a rain was always a time for celebration, especially for the farmers.

That, and it typically never just rains in WT, it storms. It blew my mind the first time it JUST rained for a week straight in CS.

I think there's actually more t-shirt sips per capita in the Midland/Odessa area than anywhere else in the country. I'm sure that that Hooters is their favorite meeting place.

They had that one store in music city mall, i think it was outlaw sports or hibbet sports, with nothing but tu gear (no b.s. the whole store had nothing but burnt orange and just a few tceh stuff).
Jrod_2002

I'm pretty sure it was Outlaw Sports. I went in there (just to be a smart a$$) and asked where the A&M gear was.

What I truly loved was I was in Midland a few years ago, and Lee copied that year's Maroon Out shirt, and put the Lee logo on it, yet Lee has a huge t-shirt tu fan base.

Yeah, they did that crap while I was in school there. They may have even tried to claim the 12th man too, I can't remember. It's actually pretty embarassing the more I think about it.

Midland seems to have a lot of real Ags and a bunch of t-shirt sips.

There are a lot there, that's probably why they tried to do the whole maroon out thing. In hind sight, it's pretty dumb to think about how they were just copying A&M. Not that I minded it at the time since I grew up an Aggie. Humpits right, a lot of tshirt sips, but that goes for Odessa too.

By the way, I've been randomly lurking on the West Texas board for a while and I'm pretty sure this is the most action its seen in a while.

Just curious what's going on in Odessa this weekend. I'm flying out there to visit my dad for Father's Day. Usually it's a drink beer, play golf, and eat abnormal amounts of food type weekend. Just wondering if there's anything interesting going on.

Wait until high school football fires up again. This is my favorite board to visit in the fall. Most of the time scores and results get posted on here before the newspaper/news stations in WT update their web pages, which is nice!

speaking of high school football, how do the teams in the district look? I really have no idea whos gonna be good next year, and especially sense the district is completely different

WestTxAg06 has generally been a good source on this. I haven't seen him post much in the past few months.

I think Dave Campbell's Texas Football should be coming out in the next few weeks, as well.

yall like the new distric alignment?
Jrod_2002

It all depends. Because there are 10 schools, plus the distance involved, the UIL will allow for the district to form 2 divisions, where the district would be split most likely north and south. I think that would be better, and allow for teams to play some non-district games, instead of the whole season being your district games.

I think the real cluster-f*** will come with the other sports that play during the week, and especially baseball when they play two game series. The distance is going to impact the Amarillo schools and San Angelo more so than Midland/Odessa and Lubbock.

Moved back to Odessa almost 2 years ago after a 13 year absence. Very sureal driving to work in Odessa the first time as an adult. Didn't think I would, but I have loved being back!

Are they really going to do the north/south split Jrod? That's a decent idea. How would they split it: Lee, MHS, Permian, OHS and SA Central in the "South"?
Jrod_2002
How long do you want to ignore this user?

From what I've been reading, that would be the idea. What is confusing, and where this idea may not be accepted, is if you have divisions in your district, then you have 2 distrcit champions, a North & South Champ. This also means that for playoff purposes, the Champ and the 2nd place team in each division would make the playoffs (since 4 teams from each district now go) so it might be possible that if the South is "stronger" than the north, a more talented team might get shafted.

Like I said, this was all discussion earlier in the spring following realignment, and if no decision has been made up to this point, I would imagine they are going to see how these two years work befre going to a divisional format.

But I do think this is the district will remain a 10 team district from now on. That's just the way Texas is growing, and you're not seeing the numbers in WT like you are east of I-35.

Paul,

Ranch Jam 2008 is at the Ranch in Midland. There will be a handful of country acts.

Gallagher (the watermelon guy) will be performing at Dos Amigos.

There are a few other local bands playing the area, andyou might check out the Wild West Comedy Club.

This is also the opening weekend for Summer Mummers.
