I am an atmospheric sciences graduate student with a bachelor's degree in meteorology (TAMU class of 2005), and I'm currently looking for a career in wind farm speculation/development, wind energy consulting, etc.

I think west Texas (particularly the Midland area) would be a great place in which to get into this field.

If anybody reading this is in the wind energy industry, or knows somebody that is, and would be interested in hiring a meteorologist/atmospheric scientist, please let me know. My e-mail is andy (dot) mcneel (at) gmail (dot) com.

Thanks and gig'em!

there are a couple of companies about to build plants in Abilene, here's a story on one of them:

Sweetwater is also seeing alot of wind related jobs coming to that city.

From reporter news articles

Renewable Energy Systems, Americas, Inc. (RES) - The Roadrunner Windfarm is a $450 million project proposed in Comanche, Brown and Mills counties. Construction on the 150-turbine project could begin as early as 2009. Once the wind farm is up and running, the power generated by the turbines will be sold to providers, such as TXU. RES has three wind farms operating in Texas, including two in Sweetwater, with a total of 105 turbines. Several projects are under construction, including the Lone Star Windfarm in Shackleford County, which will have 200 turbines and provide power to as many as many as 63,000 homes, and the Sweetwater Phase V windfarm project that will include 35 turbines.

Enel North America Inc. - Snyder Wind project completed Dec 07 - in Scurry County has 21 - 3.0 megawatt wind turbines mounted on towers measuring 345 feet. Other wind farms in the area have towers that are about 200 feet tall. Power will be sold into the Electric Reliability Council of Texas. Enel purchased the interest and rights to Snyder in October 2006 from Windkraft Nord USA Inc. As the turn-key developer of the project, Windkraft procured the turbines and remained involved in Snyder as the construction manager.

October 2007, James L. Robo, president and chief operating officer of FPL Group Inc., announced plans to spend $1 billion in the region in the next year. FPL Group has 12 wind turbine sites in West Texas, including the Horse Hollow Wind Energy Center in Taylor and Nolan counties, the nation's largest wind farm with 425 turbines providing 735 megawatts of power. One of the company's largest projects will be to build energy transmission lines from its wind farms to the population centers that will use the energy. A project Robo called the "DFW Express," which awaits state regulatory approval, would involve constructing $650 million in transmission lines.
GE Energy Services, a unit of GE, plans to invest in a $350 million wind generation project known as the Hackberry wind farm about 30 miles northwest of Abilene in Shackelford County. Renewable Energy Systems Americas Inc., the project's developer, is beginning construction on the site and has targeted December 2008 for completion of the work.
November 2007, Howard County commissioners tweaked and approved reinvestment zone agreements for five companies, a necessary step before abatement agreements could be signed. The creation of the reinvestment zone allowed Howard County officials to issue tax abatements to each of the companies as an incentive to build 200 turbines. Commissioners signed abatements on projects proposed by five companies -- Iberdrola, Airtricity, Invenergy, Padoma and Duke. The project overall could cost more than $600 million. All of the companies will pay normal county taxes until the projects are completed.

FWIW San Angelo is a finalist (last i heard) to get an import company from Europe. Still up in the air, but if they come to Angelo, it'll be a nice boost.

Any new manufacturing coming to Angelo would be great.

The company I left in Angelo 3 years ago to take a similar job here in TN is closing at the end of July. I guess I am kin to that Nostadamus guy..... I would be screwed now trying to find a similar paying job in Angelo had I stayed.
