I have always had an admiration for the Trent Gorillas (pronounced by locals GO-rillas.)

The Mean Green Wall Hawks (in my day plenty green, but not much mean) We had just moved to class A and started playing the likes Sonora, Rankin, Abiline Wyle. You could hear some yelling and cheers at Wall football games, but my gosh the crowds roared at Sonora and Rankin. Scared us to death. I wished we had played the Trent GO-rillas. The GO-rillas would have beaten us also, but not with the hugh crowds maybe.

how in the heck do you know Frank H.???????????? he's still out there cussing everybody in his path (albeit inaudibly) as far as i know. great guy. everytime i talked to him i had a good laugh.

Mr. Frank is a great Ag teacher and a nice guy when you are not screwing up. When you are screwing up, you will absolutely know it...

This year's Munday Moguls aren't as good as last year's, but they are still the defending state champs and a team that has kicked the crap out of Stamford lately. Psychologically, that's big for the boys. Same with Jim Ned, they've been a consistent playoff team for the last decade or more, and they've embarrassed Stamford a few times recently (I remember being at the game where Colt McCoy threw 7 TD passes, and could have thrown 10 if his receivers didn't drop wide-open passes).

Prior to the season I thought the district race would be Roscoe, then us and Haskell, and then everyone else. Roscoe is still the team to beat, but I'm not sold on their invincibility. Haskell is terrible (they're 0-3 and haven't played a competitive game yet). We should outman and outgun everyone else in the district (Hamlin, Rotan, Roby). As long as we take care of business when we're supposed to, I feel very good about our chances.

I was a big FFA man and everyone in the Area II FFA Association knew the legend of Frank Hermsmeyer. Plus, the Ag Teacher at Lueders-Avoca is a close family friend and he and Frank go way back, so he was always telling me stories. I didn't really know Frank that well personally, but we interacted a few times and he interviewed me when I was applying for my American Farmer Degree.

He was always in the thick of things in Livestock Judging and Chapter Conducting, and his Cotton Classification and Entomology ID teams were practically unstoppable.

My favorite Hermsmeyer story is this one: several years back, Wall had a new high school principal who went out to the Ag Shop to find Frank, where he discovered him sitting on the tailgate of the school pickup drinking beer with the president of the Young Farmers. The principal called Frank off to the side and said, "I don't expect to see you out here doing that again", to which Frank replied, "well, I guess you just better not come back out here again."
