A law school buddy of mind drove down from Lubbock to the Permian - Lee game Friday. He's from Reno, Nevada, his wife is from Colorado. They were awed by what they saw. He went to the University of Nevada, and said that the Permian - Lee game was more fun than any Nevada football game he ever attended. He was amazed at how spirited the fans were, particularly the players’ parents, and how they had organized chants. His wife went to high school at a state powerhouse in Colorado and said they might have 3,000 at their games. She was amazed at the size of Ratliff and the amount of people at that game. He was stunned when I told him that my hometown (Stamford) has a population of 3,500 and our stadium seats well over 5,000.
They were expecting to see a spectacle the likes of which they had never experienced, but they were not at all prepared for the magnitude of the spectacle that is Permian-Lee and West Texas high school football. He ranked it as one of his top sporting event moments of all time and said that everyone should see a Permian - Lee game once in their life.
