If you like New Mexico style Mexican food, go to Casa Blanca and order the Chiles Rellenos. They are absolutely the best I've ever eaten. It's in town on the road that eventually goes to Alto. It will be on the left as you're headed out.
The Cattle Baron is hard to beat for Prime Rib and Steaks. Their salad bar is good too.
If it's as dry in Ruidoso as it is in west Texas, the only snow may be man made.
If you like history, make the trip over to Lincoln one day and take a look around. It's very interesting to see where the Lincoln County War and the Billy the Kid business all happened. They have a really good museum there.
Another good museum is at Ruidoso Downs. It's on the right as you're coming in to town, and has the giant horse statues in front of it. This summer, they had some really neat exhibits on mining in New Mexico and a collection of horse drawn vehicles that was pretty amazing. They also had a lot of articles that were used in the pioneer days on farms and ranches.
