Anybody have any experience with Sprint in West TX. Specifically south of I-10 and west of 277, and more specifically HWY 90 Del Rio - Alpine.

Sprint doesn't work in Alpine. I can't say for sure about Del Rio.

it worked for me in Del Rio. Probably the only place other than Angelo that had 3G in the area if I remember correctly.

AT&T or Verizon. I work in that area and sprint was very spotty. So much that I closed a Sprint account I had for 9 years and went to a higher priced AT&T account.

That run has 40 to 70 mile spots with no service, particually on either side of Sanderson.

Thanks - I am use to ATT and can pick up service in Comstock, ~3 miles either side of Langtry, 1 hill in the Palma/Lozier canyon area, ~3-5 miles either side on Sanderson and ~ 10 miles east of Marathon. I spend alot of nights alone out there so those areas are important. I am going to get a sprint phone and make the run and see how it does before making the change with all 4 lines.

Luckily, the border patrol runs the crap out of that road. I would nor worry too much. The sprint phones work off of the verizon towers, as they don't have any there. The data roaming was crap with sprint. It worked , just not fast. You might bowe up and buy a true satellite phone, if you have to have a working phone. Before I spent that money, I would buy a pistol for traveling and keep my car in good shape.

LOL, I am well aware of the Border Patrol presence and the getting pulled over 2-4 times a night on some occasions. Not really bothered by it, in fact grateful for the first one or two stops a night. Car is in good shape, but ever drive down Pandale dirt road a couple days after a rain? BRUTAL, can turn a perfectly good car into shambles in a few miles, lol. One of the most dangerous things out there I am looking for, but I would like to be less than an hour away from coverage should I need it. I also look to be able to check in and see if things are happening in another area.

I pretty much have decided to stick with AT&T. With the amount of time I spend alone out in desert looking for snakes the few dollars is not worth the loss of coverage.

As a West Texas Ag, I can confirm AT&T is the only way to go.

What business are you in that you drive at night, if I may ask?

Not business, hobby. If you spent time around Sanderson and the area between May ~ August and noticed people walking or shining the cuts I might have been one. We are out looking for snakes.

I was there last summer and fall, but you don't see much working in the new high school.
