I will most likely be moving to Midland in January. I have begun looking for an apartment but have been told by many people that they are very expensive now and that there aren't any left. Basically, I was told I should get an apartment in Odessa. None of these people actually live in Midland so I am looking to see if anyone here has any knowledge of this. And which apartment you would recommend. Thanks.

While I don't live in an apartment anymore, I personally would suggest looking in Midland first. I'm not going to knock Odessa like some will, but Midland is a nice town. Also if you are going to be working here anyway, you might as well live here. What is your price range for an apartment? I can ask a few friends that do live in apartments and get you some prices.

I want to stay below 650.00. I would like to do a two bedroom if that is at all possible for that price. I was told the prices had all gone up when the oil industry picked up. Thanks for the help.

I haven't had a chance to talk to anyone yet, but I listed a few apartments below that I have either lived in or know someone who has. I honestly don't know what the prices are now, but this may get you started. I'll look around and see if I can identify a few more.

1)The Clusters - 4415 Northcrest Drive, Midland, TX 79707(432) 699-7941

2)Las Colinas - 3315 Godfrey Street, Midland, TX
(432)697-8770

3)Bradford Apartments - 4715 West Wadley Avenue Midland, TX 79707 (432) 697-3239

4)Meridian Apartments Homes - ‎4400 N Holiday Hill Rd, Midland, TX 79707 (432) 699-7435

5)Wildflower Apartments - 4301 Raleigh Court Midland, TX 79707 (432)699-5570

Edit: In order by price from most expensive to least expensive (my guess).

We are in the middle of moving from one rental house to another here in Midland and from what I have seen there is zero chance you find a 2/2 for $650 in either town. Would be very very lucky to find a 1/1 for that price and if you do to be honest it is probably in pretty bad shape. Perfect example of the market is our house we currently live in is was bought 1.5 years ago at $130, appraised at $138k this year, and the landlord is selling it and asking $162k and already has at least one offer after 4 days on the market. Sure it isnt a full offer but still...

We are about to move into a 3/2 that is just under 1700 sq ft and we signed for $1600 a month.

Moral of the story... It is rough and there arent enough apartments and it is getting worst every day with oil climbing and going over $85.

Thanks for the info. I've looked at Windscape and Wildflower. They each have a one bedroom for around 650.00. It looks like the best deal I have found so far. The Clusters is running a close third. They are more expensive then the other two.

Move to Big Spring and commute. Wonderful smaller town. Don't pay any attention to the negative comments some will post, as they are jealous.

I lived in The Clusters about five years ago. I had no problems there. They were more expensive, but there were several families living around me so it was pretty calm. The manager (Charlotte?) tried to keep my deposit when I moved out, but that was the only problem I ever had there.

If you're curious about crime in Midland, I've attached a link to the crime map kept up by the city.

Edit: These are apparently recent numbers.

We lived at Wildflower for 7 months... I think we paid $770 for a 2/2, utilities ran about $100 and then cable and internet was another $80-100. I used to be director of maintenance for one of the apartment complexes in CS during college, I had that place move in ready when we moved out and they still tried to take about half our deposit. I ended up arguing with them till all I paid was $85 for the carpet to be cleaned (even though it was probably 10 years old and needed to be replaced)

One thing that really pissed me off though was we were looking at renting a washer and dryer so we didnt have to buy them at that point. You have to use the rental company that gave them a kick back or your other option was you could pay like $25/month as a service fee and use whoever you wanted. Basically if your renting a washer/dryer they want to make something off of it even though it isnt any work for them. We ended up buying...

Other than that is was a pretty nice place. Make sure to ask if the stripper still lives in building 15 and if so try to live in 14... She always liked to let her dog out in spandex and a bra.

Not to hijack your thread or anything but I am in the same situation. I start work in Odessa for BJ services on January 17th and I am going on a house hunting trip with my company at the beginning of December. I am just looking for a 1/1 apartment and most of the ones that I have found have been about 800 a month.

Hey let me know what you find. I will be heading up there soon to go house hunting and I would like a good idea of places to go to.

Any place you find a 2/2 for $650 in Midland is going to be someplace you don't want to live.

Cheapest 2 BR I saw this last summer was $810.

I'm class of 98. Knew several L-1. I looked at several apartments and have narrowed it down to windscape, wildflower, and clusters. Wildflower has the lead. The apartments are all overpiced it seems. The prices are the same or exceed what I have spent here in Austin. I was warned this was going to happen with the influx of people to Midland. I skipped the newest apartment complexes after they wanted a crazy amount of money. I lived in one of those "luxury" complexes in Austin for a year. Very pretty on the outside but terrible quality of construction. I could hear my neighbor fart.
Anyway, thanks for the help. I may take another trip and check out rent houses. I don't want to buy a house just yet. I want to wait a year or two and see how things pan out in Midland.

Apartment rates are high, but it's hard to argue that they're overpriced given that they're all pretty much full.

I live at Dorado Ranch in Odessa and we pay 1050 a month for a 2/2. My friends who live at other apartments in Odessa pay around 900 a month for a 2/2.

I go to school at the Health Science center in Odessa and work in Midland. Our apartment is in the middle. Hope that helps

Hey guys, you might check with a realtor to help you find a apartment/condo to rent. Several of the older apartment complexes have sold individual apartments to investors. They renovate the apartments and lease them out. When you lease one of these, you deal with an individual from Midland, not a corporation from New Jersey. You might even want to buy one. A lady that works for me is also a realtor and has contacts with some of these investors. She found a 2/2 for another one of my employees that was a pretty good deal. He lives in the complex just west of the mall. If you are interested, call me at my office and ask for Scott (432-682-7576). I'll put you in touch with her.

Don't waste your time paying too much in Odessa/Midland. Try Stanton or even better Big Spring. Midland is waaayyy over-rated. Midland is where you want to go to chain retailers or restaurants and then get the hell out.
Cowtown Red

yeah, go live in Stanton. You'll like that much better.
