Could anyone give some insight as to the cost of a reasonably nice one bedrrom apartment in Midland? I might be taking a position there soon and was curious as to the cost of living. Would ?500-?700 be a reasonable amount to guess? Thanks.

700-900 is probably better estimate right now. Midland economy is booming and rent is high. The nicer apartments are on the loop. Some realtors have connections with owners of condos for rent. You might look into that too.
Good luck, I've been here 22 years and love Midland. It's a shock at first, but it grows on you.

Just out of curiousity:

1) Would I be able to rent a house for about the same amount?

2) Any areas you would reccomend over another?

I am rather familiar with the Midland apartment and home market Your figure is a good bit low. A decent apartment in an older, well-maintained complex is more in the 700-900 range. There are several very new complexes also, but they are running closer to 1000. You will want to stay on the N and NW side, generally outside Loop 250. But even then there are some not that great complexes. I usually check this forum daily, so if you come up with some complex names you are looking at, list them and I'll give you my semi-educated opinion.

As far as houses, we are in a very large housing crunch here. Not alot for rent and they will be considerably more than any of the apartments.

Housing prices and availability are the one downfall to a booming economy.

You will not be able to rent a comparably priced house.

Stay away from Neely/Midland Drive. Concentrate your search north of Wadley out past the loop.

yeah, as Cowtown said, stay away from Neely/Midland Dr. area. It's better known as the Midland Lee High School athletic dorms

^ Very true.

I own a nice rent house, (2500 sf, 4br,2b,2garage). Just resigned my tenant to a two year lease at $1700/mo. Anything in the 700-900 range would not be in a desirable neighborhood. I agree with all the above comments also.

Can you name 1-3 of the older ones you would reccomend and 1-3 of the newer ones? Basically, what would your top 5 or 6 be of the two kinds (older and newer).

Thanks all.

Hoyt,

I have lived in Windscape for several years. Just across the Loop from the Mall. It's fine. Right next to it is Windtree. Also OK. Then there is Wildflower, The Clusters, The Park at Caldera and Polo Park. All good apartments.

Of the newer ones, I can't really rememeber most of the names. Several have opened in the past year. The Palms is one of them. Real nice. Another one way up north on Midkiff called Vantage (i think). Also Blue Ridge.

Went to 15 properties. I liked Blue Ridge best and could get me in soon.

Hoyt, all listed are fine EXCEPT for Aviare Place. Stay away. And Blue Ridge are brand new (last couple months). Glad you found something.

The staff at Windscape seemed kinda rude when I went in. The lady didnt really want to give me too much information and then was upset when I left without sigining anything. I didnt get a chance to go in Windtree, they were out on property for a long time and I got tired of waiting. I think I will be back next week, so I am going to go to a few a second time to narrow it down more and hopefully secure one so I can have one less thing on the to do list.

Just something to add about the price of rental houses in Midland. A buddy of mine bought his first house two doors down from my parents. From the curb, it appears to be the same as my parent's, 3-2-2 and appx 1700 sq ft. He's been trying to sell it for a few months with little luck ,but get this, he's moving to an apartment for a year because he had a guy offer to rent it for $2300 a month.

Hoyt,

I have been at Windscape for several years. They had an awesome manager for all that time. The current management team just came in about 2 months ago, and I agree, CAN'T STAND THEM! The apartments are fine for older, maintained units but definitely low end of the list with the crappy management.

Luckily I am finally getting out. Begin building my new house in about November.

What exactly does he not like, because I have heard the exact opposite from 4 different people I know that live there.

I dunno he left on a trip the other day, all I can tell you is that he hates it enough to pay a good amount if money to leave. He's moving into the palms

I have lived in windtree for 3 months now. 800 sq ft 2 bedroom for 850 a month. It was the best deal I could find. The apts are older and some of the neighbors are very sketchy. Other than that it's okay.
