I grew up in Sweetwater, not a terrible place... When I was there it was great, but now it has gotten a little more sketchy. Just be careful of who you hang out with and where you hang out at!
Live in Rotan, 30 miles north. Pretty laid back lifestyle, no traffic, easy access to Abilene, Midland-Odessa, Lubbock, & San Angelo, for what that's worth. 1 great hole in the wall Mexican food place in Sweetwater.
Wife's parents live there, go there all the time. Own land outside Roscoe for cotton and wheat with 3 windmills and power distribution plant and we just leased the oil rights for 6 years...so I like the place and hopefully will retire there in the next 10 years and live off the oil money.

Lived here for over four years. It is a good place to raise a family. It's a quiet town and its best years are probably behind it, but it provides all of the essentials and we are near enough to Abilene that we are not left wanting the suburban conveniences. We have found that there is a fairly strong sense of community, especially within the churches and surrounding the high school. It is, of course, a football town as well. We've enjoyed our time here now that we are settled. It was a little difficult before we had kids, but it is what you make it.
Why do you ask Kag? I live in Snyder, TX about 35 miles to the Northwest. I came from AZ to A&M & have been in Texas since. Snyder since '05. This area has a strong oilfield presence in about every town. Snyder more than Sweetwater. Sweetwater is only about 40 miles from the big box stores of Abilene. Established families are a big deal around here but can be very kind through the churches.
What specifically did you want to know about the area?
It IS different from the I-35 corridor, we are in a hard drouth right now. Hunting isn't great this year, agriculture is suffering bad, but oil is still strong.
