Pioneer Natural Resources announces construction of building at ClayDesta
quote:
Sheffield said the new building will house 250 to 300 employees, a percentage of the 1,000 people Pioneer already employs in the Permian Basin. This year, the company intends to hire 400 more people, from field and service staff to technical and office support staff, he said.

$50M for a new building is nice.
400 new people is nice.
Midland's population grew from 101K to 111k in 10 years.
Somebody needs to get to work on our desalination plant.

That is why we are moving out there. I've read that this current "boom" could last through 2018 or so. There are already 460+ drilling rigs in the basin. By the end of 2012, there could be 550 drilling rigs.

One question Whoop, why are there no 5 bed-room houses, mainly 4 BR and secondly, not many 2-story houses. I'm sure there is a reason for number 2. Any insight would again be greatly appreciated.

I am no authority even after being here 19 years.
Maybe would look for a 4 BR with an office that can be converted.
No 2 stories - I really don't know but I know of very few, most are outside the city limits (at least in bunches). A 2 story house could see for 50 miles out here.

My neighborhood, Crestgate, has many 4 BR homes.
My house has 4 BRs with a "front room" that would be what we used to call a "living room" but we have a 30' long den that is the center of the house. Our front room could have been converted into a mother in law BR if need be but would need a closet. Our house was built in 1981 or so with 2.5 baths. All of the CREST* streets have houses built 1980-199?. Rock Point and Crista/Oakridge are all considered Crestgate also I believe. We have Butler park that Crestgate subdivision surrounds on 2 sides. Across Midland drive is Briarwood and Greathouse, if public school in elementary level is a goal go over there. They should be Greathouse area. Crestgate is Santa Rita. Grassland has 199? houses and they have Scharbauer and Abell JH.

I don't know your price range, but this house is in a neighborhood with a few St. Anns folks with larger families and have a few 2 stories. Midland High District.

there is a new sub-division being built or was started in 2007 or so that has some man-made lakes/ponds. it looks nice, but again, most are 4 BR homes. I was shocked at the prices as well. My house here in Katy would fetch 600K or so and it is nothing nice. This part of my package will need help, cost of living increase.

Must be the new neighborhood on North A street.
We looked around when they were building up out there.
Everything north of Loop 250 is very nice.
79707 & 79705 zip codes most likely targets.

Neighborhood on north A is Woodland Park I believe. We looked there 2 years ago. The price per sf was through the roof in that neighborhood. You will get more house for you money in other neighborhoods.
One thing to note, if you live on the edge of the desert, like Woodland Park, you will encounter coyotes, fox, scorpions, field mice, and rattlesnakes at some point. Probably want a cat or two for the mice and snakes. haha

Just looked at the paper, aren't many 5+ brms listed.

3410 Bluebird (4 acres, but in town) $1,050,000
5813 Highland w/pool $499,000 not sure where this on is.
4212 Timberglen $465,000. not sure where this is either.
3802 St. Andrews $575,000. Might want to check this one out, Trinity Estates, very nice area.

You are right nu awlins, not many 5+.

My advice after searching for 4 months and finally landing what I was looking for.... make sure you have a well connected realtor.

Most of the houses I went after were not on the market yet and half of them never made it to the market or were sold the first day. The realtors will shop them to their clients and their associates for days to weeks before listing - especially the good homes that they know will sell prior to being listed. And if you see one that looks like it has potential, get in it ASAP.
