Let's say a field hand was working outside of midland and the rig was down a couple days, what could a single guy do? Also let's say this hand may not have another person to hit the town with how would that play. Of course this all hypothetical

Ha...good luck. This is why I pretty much leave town every weekend.

If you wanna find some trouble, there's The Bar (mixed crowd, isn't necessarily rowdy), Rockin' Rodeo, and the city of Odessa.

If you wanna grab a few drinks and chill, there's the Blue Door (open till midnight), Cigar Frogs, The Hemingway, and maybe one other upscale-ish bar that is BYOB but I can't think of the name.

If you want wholesome, there's the George Bush childhood home, the Petroleum Museum, and a drive in.

There's also golf, tennis, and a couple places to shoot clays but you might not have the equipment for that stuff if you were planning on being on a rig.

As far as I know, that's about it.

Also on the wholesome list, American Airpower Museum (CAF), Odessa Meteor Crater, Drive two hours west to Carlsbad Caverns, or two hours east to Lowake Steakhouse. After the latter, go see Ft. Concho in San Angelo.

There is a Stoney Larue concert in hodessa this Friday.

Oh- and there are things to do...just ask and search. Keep an eye on Tall Townes Entertainment (Facebook). They bring in good shows.

People complain about Midland or leave all the time. It isn't that Bad, IMO. I am not a lifer nor do I want to be here forever but you have to make the best of it. Let us all know when you are going out and maybe we can just have a meet up. I am all for meeting new people to break the same old same old stuff (I can elaborate later) Ha!

Good summary. Midland isn't that bad until you get into a rut, so I'm all for changing things up and doing new stuff.

I can agree 100% on the traffic comparison. I'm not so sure about the drivers though. Granted the city has its fair share of crazy drivers, I've encountered too many of them here, esp the kind who pull out of side roads RIGHT in front of you. Thankfully I'm a fairly alert driver so I brake just in time, otherwise I would have been in an accident by now. Blame the oil boom for the madness...
