a few Abilene landmarks to check out

Joe Allen's Steaks in the 1100 block of S Treadaway, great bbq too.

Joe's ex-wife has Sharon Allen's Lytle Land and Cattle that is an excellent place at Judge Ely and S 11th. Good steaks and other grilled stuff. Sharon also has a new bbq joint thats pretty good on E Hwy 80.

Harold's bbq is a local favorite. A special treat when Harold comes out from the pit to sing.

Perini Ranch in Buffalo Gap is a must visit if you can work it in your schedule.

Thanks Sheik -- I'm gonna be out south of town so Perini's would be nice --- but --- I'm there on Monday & Tuesday & they're closed --- so guess I'll have to settle for Joe Allen's --- darn :~). May take in Frontier Town --- hear it's a neat thing.

If you're looking for a steak, Sharon Allen's Lytle Land & Cattle has surpassed Joe Allen's these days. It's a shame you'll miss Perini's though, it's an all-around great experience, from the sourdough bread to the steak to the bacon-wrapped jalapenos and the strawberry shortcake.

Frontier Texas is awesome.
Worth the time for sure.

and I'll agree that Sharon's place has about eclipsed Joe's as far as quality or variety, but there's still something about going to Joe Allen's to eat a big ole ribeye and drink a beer.

Perini's misses out on so many visitors because they're not open on Mon & Tue. Instead, and if you have time, check out The Albany Mercantile and Beehive Saloon in Albany. About an hour northeast of Abilene, but well worth the trip too. Another award winning steakhouse. They are open on Mon & Tue.

I hope you get to read this before you go. There is no doubt that Joe and SHaron ALlen make a good steak. But there is a place that is never as crowded and literally makes the best steak I've ever had that was not cooked at my house. Ronny Ingalls on south Treadaway near Industrial. And, being an Aggie, you will really like the decor of the place. He's an Aggie, too and decorates as such.
Best restaurant ribeye ever.

I concur on all the steak places, I'd like to add Enrique's for Mexican.

Thanks for all the great input folks -- we'll be there this monday & tuesday -- ribeyes are our favorite so we obviously have "tough" choices to make - looking foward to it !

I guarantee you they won't be tough.

Albany is only about 30 minutes from Abilene, and the Fort Griffin General Merchandise is on the highway coming into town. Texas Monthly named it best small town steakhouse a couple of times. Great place if you have time to check it out.

For Mexican go to S14th and Barrow, La Poplar is there at the intersection and Alfredo's is three blocks east on 14th.....both are very good, and worth visiting for the morning breakfast burrito wars...

Cypress Street Station downtown and the new Copper Creek out on the loop at Industrial Blvd are both very nice places to 'dine'
