We've got one thread for Abeline and one for San Angelo. I feel as if my home town is in need of a thread. So where are the best places to eat?

Wall Street is incredible. There is also a good Italian food place in downtown (luigis or something like that). Murray's is a good deli. Its been so long since I've gone back, I have forgotten many of the names of good places.

The best Mexican food around is Ajuas on Andrews Hwy in Odessa. Their fajitas are the best around - and that's saying something.

Best place in Odessa: Arthur Ray's Diner. On Murphy, just East of Grant, just South of Downtown.

Soul Food! Great Fried Chicken, meatloaf, greens, cabbage, creamed potatoes, red beans and rice, yams, cornbread cooked in an iron skillet, homemade peach cobbler, etc.

Cash only.

Funny story: They used to have a pitcher that was for sweet tea. Only problem was it was labelled 'Sweat Tea'. Really not that funny when you see Arthur Ray standing over the serving line on a hot day.

Dos Compadres - for Mexican food. It's all good and affordable also.

Michael's used to be a real hot spot for burgers & BBQ, especially when the Air Force had pilots come thru here. They just don't seem as busy as before.

We like JC's smokehouse for BBQ most of the time.

Kuo's - for sit-down Chinese food.
...and actually a new take-out only place "Great wall" just opened in Midland with very good food, IMHO.

What would anyone say is the best (non-chain) Italian place in Midland/Odessa? We make our own normally.

Arthur Ray's kicks butt. Smothered steak drips of chest tightening lard/grease. The greens and cabbage are to die for. Man is it good. Being there are real mexicans cooking in Midland/Odessa, pretty much all of the Mexican Food is really good.

La Bodega is the best mexican food in midland. It is a tad bit different than other mexican food places depending on what you get, but I crave it when I'm in CS. You MUST eat there.

Tay, I think I agree with you 100%!

La Bodega is where my wife and I detoxed from New Mexican Food when we moved back to Texas. It did the job, but today I still prefer Dos Compadres.

Yes, Garfield & Wadley on the MC corner of the block. But we actually prefer the taste of Odessa's on JBS Parkway across from UTPB. Same family, same recipes, just better at Odessa's in our opinion.

Your tastebuds may vary!

I thought so, and yes, I love that place.

There is also some Dos something in Odessa that is great.

Does anyone like KD's on the intersection of Garden City Hwy and I-20? They've got the best jalepeno sausage in the state in IMHO.

I've been to KD's once...i had the brisket and it was very good. I've heard their jalepeno sausage is good also

KD's is great - only problem is that you smell like smoke for the rest of the day.

Caramba's, Tampico, Oscar's, Reynas, La Bodega, & Rosa's are my favorite mexican food places.
My favorite is Wall Street, and Clear Springs is really good too.

Anyone ever been to Manuel's in Midland - on 349 (Big Spring Street) about 2 miles south of I-20. Should rate high in the Mexican Food Deli/Beer Store category.

I guess it is true that Midland/Odessa is not short on good mexican food.

I have tried KD's and it was good brisket.
Convenient for grab and go food on the way to Dallas!

BQ89AG...Manuel's is awesome. I lived close to there - the sherriff's boys like to hang out there.

Okay, here is a new one for you. For all of you Buddy's deprived steak finger afficianados - Mona's Place. Caddy corner from Midland Memorial behind Walgreens. Story I heard is that Mona was a former Buddy's employee.

Big Hint - you can get a 1/2 order of the steak fingers.

Now that the loop has been finished for a while, we now have most of the major chains (rumor has it we are now getting a Joe's Crabshack). The neat thing with you guys is you are all choosing the old Midland restaurants that have been here forever. I tend to agree with you as well.

Best Mexican: Abuelos or Romies on the southside
Best overall: Wall Street (try the gumbo)
Best deal on Fried shrimp: Cheddars, shrimp as good as any I've had, and I grew up in the Galveston area.
BBQ: KD's
Fast Food Burger: Texas Burger
Italian: Luigi's downtown or Olive Garden is always good.
Onion Rings: Clear Springs
I heard a new place across from the mall called Outlaw Deli is very good.

What we need in Midland is a good Pizza parlor with a family atmosphere, kind of like the old Shakey's except good NY style pizza, and no token games. Just thought I would mention that in case somebody here wants to open a restaurant in Midland.

I agree with Midland Aggie above.

Another Italian place is Venizios (sp?) although, I think Olive Garden is better.

Best place to eat in town...Wallstreet

New Pizza Place just opened up in Odessa, on Parkway across from UTPB, behind the Wells Fargo location. Have not been there yet.

Vandy,

Yes that is the place. El Chico is no longer there. Venezia's is still under the same ownership as far as I know.

To answer your question, Yes, there is a Dos Compadres in Midland at that location, owned and run by the same family as Odessa's location.

Our favorite Dos Compadres is the less scenic but better food (to us) at Odessa's location. Can't describe the difference - we just like it better.

The Jersey Girl pizza place is a few doors down from it by the Wells Fargo near 42nd/Parkway.

One of these days I will have to go by Jersey Girl and test it out.

Dont know how this got passed up... best place in Midland to eat hands down is Rosas... there is one on Andrews, Big Spring, and Midland Drive. Breakfast burritos are great at Jumburrito. As far as sit down: Luigi's downtown is good for Italian... sit down mexican food places are too many to list... I love Ajuas personally but there are better quality places... Dinos pizza is the best pizza in town.... Murrays on Wadley if you want a sandwich... thats all I got for now
