Big Spring is taking 100 Katrina families. The school is sending buses every four hours to get them. We have over 100 people right now. We need whatever we can get. Please help if at all possible. These families are here to stay. Bad way to increase your population, but nice to open your arms to help. If interested in helping, Google Big Spring ISD and there is a link to the relief effort.

That's awesome of Big Spring. Like I said yesterday, we've got plenty of room in West Texas, might as well bring some more folks in.

EDIT: Tell me this though, Fuzzy. I just got off the phone with my dad back home and he said that there were some discussions about locating 100 families at our vacant cap factory building.

He thought that bringing folks to Stamford would be good, especially if they stayed permanently, but he was concerned that we would be bringing more welfare recipients and looters into town than we already have.

Is there any sort of qualification or selection process that Big Spring is using?

Where are they going to put them? Are they going to put them in the coliseum? I was just trying to think of places they can put them.

They are currently housing them in local motels. There are vacant properties all over Big Spring that people are donating for this relief effort. So far, we have only received 80 people. About 1/3 of them have left to go to a relative's home. Some are waiting for financial records to be retrieved where they can go back and rebuild. We have 5 or 6 families that never want to go back. They like this "dry heat". We will receive more after the political power plays are run out. Additionally, the only qualification is they are on the bus. We have an open door policy.
