You gotta understand, with the laid back lifestyle West Texas affords, things kinda move at their own pace. You can take your time...things slow down a bit...not all the hustle and bustle of D/FW or Houston or San Antonio.

So this forum is perfect...we can take our time replying and posting and do as we see fit. Enjoy!

I'm in the midst of putting together a thread about the 76th annual Texas Cowboy Reunion that took place this past week. I figure we can have a bit of a fun discussion about it.

maestro,

Have you ever lived in West Texas?
I grew up in the Houston area, worked in the Dallas area when I left A&M. Moved to Midland in 1989.
You can have the metro mess, I'll take Midland any day.
Once you have lived out here for a while, you will find that the people here are the best and you don't want to leave.
Just ask any petroleum engineer that spent a few years in Mildand and had to transfer to Houston. Ask them which town they prefer to live in and raise their kids.

midland ag- i indeed lived in west tx for 13 yrs. i loved living there. the people definitely make west tx the wonderful place that it is. thus my frustration that this forum is not more active like the others. that is all. by the way, i think the count is now at 7. i am not helping my cause for staying around by my continual bantor. but it would be hypocritical of me not to respond when that is what i have been asking for all along from you wonderful people.

The Texas Cowboy Reunion. That used to be the best party. All night long after the Stagecoach Inn dance we'd hang out "out back" behind the arena. I drank lots and lots of beer back there.

There used to be a hamburger joint a few block north of the square on the east side of the road that had the best steak fingers. Made from real steak, not pre-processed compressed stuff. A pile of those a spicy bbq sandwich from Pinkies and a case of beer from Ferrell's and our 4th of July celebration was complete.

And the Stagecoach. I wish I'd kept a list of all the bands I saw there. All the old 80's guys. Moe Bandy, Joe Stampley, Gary Stewart. I think I remember Asleep at the Wheel though I saw them several other times later. Now that was a dance hall.

Stagecoach Inn-Stamford Tx in the 70's. Mel Tillis, Johnny Bush, Ray Price, and a battle of the bands between Curtis Caffey and Willie Nelson. No bull, I saw it.

see ya, wouldn't wanna be ya? that is the best you could come up with? come on power, you can do better than that. i am being sent away from this forum with that weak a$$ line. i should ask for another 50 because of that weak sh$t. come strong, or don't come at all.

Lloyd Maines of The Maines Brothers Band is Natalie's dad. I'm not sure about their politics either, but he's a heck of a steel guitar player and record producer: he's done both for a lot of Texas music guys, and should especially be noted for producing that masterpiece of American music called Robert Earl Keen's "No. 2 Live Dinner".

you wouldn't happen to know where I could get my hands on a copy of the cassette "panhandle dancer" by the maines brothers, would you?
