Going from Shotwell to Perini's, this is probably the best route:

Turn right out of the Shotwell parking lot and head east to Loop 322. That's the highway just to the east of Shotwell and the Expo Center, the airport is on the other side of it, it's less than a half-mile. You'll want to take a right on the loop and head back to the south.

Take the loop to Buffalo Gap Road (FM 89). You'll go past the big interchange that has the Hwy 83/84 exit towards Tuscola, Coleman, and such. Get off on Buffalo Gap and take a left at the light, going underneath the loop. The Mall of Abilene will be on your right side, you'll go out past the Wylie area, and it'll be about 10 miles to Buffalo Gap.

If I recall, the road will kind of curve around and take a right as you go through the Buffalo Gap community. The key is to just stay on FM 89

Perini Ranch will be about a mile or so outside of town, if my memory serves me correctly. There will be a sign, you shouldn't have any trouble finding it.

I'll some food recommendations, but you really can't go wrong with any of it. I would assume you're going to eat a steak. All of the vegetables are great, whether you choose the zucchini Perini, the cowboy potatoes, or the green chile hominy. As for desserts, I am a huge fan of the bread pudding and the strawberry shortcake (made of fresh sourdough biscuits, strawberries, and homemade cream), but I've heard tell that the jalapeno cheesecake is good too. I must request that you order the jalapeno peppers as an appetizer: they're filled with cream cheese, wrapped with bacon, and then grilled, and absolutely OUTSTANDING. My dad and I knock back a minimum of a dozen whenever we're in there.

Enjoy, I've never known of anyone to be disappointed by a meal of Tom Perini's.

West Texas Ag has got it right...I live in Houston but make it to Perini's at least once a month...if the prime rib is available get it...the bread pudding is the best in the world and the bacon wrapped shrimp appetizers are great...2 miles from Buffalo Gap...Hwy 89 takes a 90 degree right turn just as your leaving Buffalo Gap...

so Fast Fred how was the trip to Perini's

I got here later or I would have suggested you make reservations 325-572-3339

and suggest my favorite drink
a Martinez - in a salted highball glass over rocks, tequila, splash of triple sec, a tablespoon of jalepeno brine, soda and garnish with jalepeno
chase with a tecate or dosxx

first trip should include,
jalepeno poppers, ribs, prime rib, hominy, bread pudding

after that, be careful
we ordered hamburgers once and it was over a year before we got anything else
fri and sat they have fried catfish that is the best I've ever eaten, period
and sunday lunch with fried chicken and chicken fried steak is worth the trip back for certain.

We didn't go to Perini's because there wasn't, IMO, enough time before, between or after the Six Man Football State Championship doubleheader played at Shotwell.

The Richland Springs-Rule game, 78-58, was especially excellent and the Vernon Northside Indian-Jayton Jaybird contest was entertaining as a warm up.

I don't believe I've ever seen a better football player, when considered and evaluated within his peer group, than is Tyler Etheridge of Richland Springs.

I've seen him play five times now.

Offense, defense and special teams, he does it all very, very, very well.

I believe that Rule could have been victorious against any other six man squad in the State, but Tyler Etheridge, aided, abetted and awfully well complemented by his Coyote team mates, was simply too much.

The Bobcats hoped to rule, but were taken to school and went down decisively in the end.

Jayton lost also, in a game marred by 12 turnovers from the combined teams.

Throughout that initial game, I thought the Jaybirds had the better chance at victory.

But twice they drove inside the Northside Indian five yard line only to fumble the ball through the end zone.

Such a mistake correctly results in a touchback, loss of possession and your opponent receiving the ball on the twenty.

That's a harsh outcome for a long, almost successful scoring drive and many Jaybird fans thought the officials were crazy the first time it occurred, when their team lost both the potential points and prized possession of the pigskin.

Then they got to see it happen again, later in the game.

I bet they know about that rule now.

We ate, between the two games, at Joe Allen's Steakhouse near the stadium because of the convenience and, once again, it was serviceable.

Thanks for your replies, advice and directions.

However, we decided to save our anticipated enjoyment of Perini's Ranch Steakhouse in Buffalo Gap for a future time, hopefully soon, when our schedule isn't as crowded so we may properly savor it.

The actual Buffalo Gap is still impressive to drive through, even now with all the newly built houses.

It's as if a large herd of upwardly mobile humans collectively voiced their individual wishes to settle down: "Oh, give me a home where the buffalo roam...," and, lo and behold, it came true.

BTHO Cal!!!!!
