A&M QB to speak on faith
A quick look at terminology shows how much of a link there is between Faith and Sports.
A long pass in football is a “Hail-Mary.” A basketball shot at the buzzer is a “prayer.”
Of course the connection between faith and sports is much deeper than just phrases like that, and that connection is being celebrated next Monday here in San Angelo.
Texas A&M quarterback Stephen McGee will be the featured speaker at the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Spring Fundraiser, which begins at 6:30 p.m. at the San Angelo Convention Center.
About 600 athletes from 50 high school campuses around West Texas are expected to attend, and the event is open to anyone.
Today is the deadline to reserve tickets. The price is $75 per person or $500 per table (10 tickets).
For more information, call Holly Wagner at (325) 949-3954.
In addition to McGee, A&M special teams coordinator Mark Tommerdahl will also speak.
“I talk about my personal experiences,” said Tommerdahl, who has been a member of the organization for the past 25 years. “FCA is a great form of ministry trying to reach people in the sports world, which can be an extremely materialistic environment. …
“The ultimate message is spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ. Letting people know there’s more to life.”
