The wife and I will be taking an RV vacation in the next two weeks. We will be traveling from Cloudcroft, NM to Houston. What parks/attractions do you recommend along the way?

Cloudcroft is a very nice place. It will be hard to beat on your way to Houston.

It depends on which route you plan to travel, I-10 or Hwy 90.

I-10 will take you through a lot of nothing until you get to the Hill Country. There you have Fredricksburg with popular shopping and wine tasting activities, Sonora with come caverns similar to your Carlsbad. Further down the road you have San Antonio with the Riverwalk and anything else you can ask from a large city.

Hwy 90 will take you through the Davis Mountains area. You may not be impressed though, being from Cloudcroft. If you like art you could visit Marfa. South of Hwy 90, a bit out of your way, you will find Big Bend National Park which would certainly be a change of scenery from NM.

Have a nice trip. Maybe someone else will chime in with a few more ideas.

Balmorhea State Park, if you like swimming. It's right by I-10, near the Davis Mtns.

Just jealous that you are living in Cloudcroft.

Try San Angelo with Fort Concho and the Museum. Stay out at Nasworthy in the RV. Then Menard and Fort McKavitt, then Mason, Fredricksburg, then Brenham and Blue Bell. Then travel down to Matogorda and the new RV park on the beach at the Nature center. That would lead you to Southern Houston/Nasa/Moody Gardens/Museum of Natural Sciences, etc.

Oh, and bring mosquito spray to Matagorda for at night.

What is nice about an RV is you are always home, where ever.

Have fun where ever you end up going.

I would suggest going through Camp Wood, and staying at Cooksey park on the Nueces River. The scenery is unbelievable, but there may be a bit of "pucker factor" on some of the roads.
