Those are a couple of places I remember that I liked.

there's now a Beehive Steakhouse at 5th and Cedar downtown. It's been in Albany for years, and by all accounts it's pretty good.

Joe Allens has really gone downhill in my opionion. His bbq just isnt what it used to be.

My favorite bbq is Harolds at N13th and Walnut. He's only open 11-3 Monday through Saturday and prepare to stand in line most days. Sharon Allens(Joe Allens ex) out on E80 is pretty good, her side dishes are the best.

A trip out to Buffalo Gap for Perinis Steakhouse is a must. And not far from there, the Homestead. Its family style, in an old farm house they refurbished.

Alfredos and La Popular are good texmex choices, and both have really good breakfasts.

ZooGuy, are the zoo guy we're about to lose to South Carolina?

good luck with the job! The city has poured alot into improvements out there, its always been a good zoo tho'

cahoots.....I cant get my wife to eat there since the health dept shut them down for that period. We've started going to Catfish Corner, I really like it better.

Actually, I have worked at the zoo before, so I know the situation.

It's not the city that has poured as much money into the zoo; Local foundations donations and bond money has been put into the zoo, as well as private donations.

The city has provided some money for small improvements, however, and has always supported the zoo in a very positive way. Most of the new improvements have been private in nature.

Yes, I would agree, the current City Manager and council are very supportive of the zoo.

The community has been very supportive of the zoo, and I think inroads could be made to be involved more in the community; that's just my two cents.

the new educational center ought to help. More schools will want to utilize that...

Yes, the new Education Center should help. Hopefully, the bond money can actually start to be used soon, so that the public can see some new animals.

I got to see the Education Building from the beginning design to where it is now. The Board of Directors did a great job from start to finish on that project.

If you want catfish you should go to catfish corner on treadaway. They have all you can eat and it's BYOB. They'll even put your west texas 30 pack in the fridge and bring beers out to you. Now that's service.

Copper Creek is really nice and good food. It is on the Loop towards the airport.

The single most depressing statement I've read.

it's a shame really. But the decline started when Joe and Sharon divorced. You could see the quality going downhill. And then when he moved around the corner and consolidated Cahoots and the bbq place it really began to suck.

Sharon is pretty good at the restaurant game and has done well with both of her places. Her steakhouse wins the Reporter News' readers poll every year.

Anyone ever tried Ronnie Ingalls place or does Ag loyalty not extend over to BBQ?

Ronnie's is a great place for a beer and some bbq

I eat there a couple of times a month. He does a lot of catering too and can cook a pretty good steak. Not open in the evenings anymore, but check him out for lunch sometime. Ribs on Friday, but I usually just get brisket. Not the worlds greatest bbq but consistently good.

ps Ronnie is a lot of fun to visit with too. He was part of the Team of the Century at Abilene High and went to A&M at the end of the Bear Bryant Junction boys period. Get him talking politics, and you can easily get an eye to twitching or a vein to pop.
