This may not be the most appropriate board and I'm not getting much traffic on the Travel. We haven't been down in several years since the drug violence ratcheted up but are contemplating going down for New Years and stay at La Posada. We typically only go to a few restaurants and don't do the drug or nightlife (we don't go where we shouldn't) thing in NL. Anybody know what the situation is these days? If those are the actions that you will take, you will be fine. I would suggest coming back before it gets too late though.
