How about a Good Pediatrician?

As per the earlier thread, I'm not sure on Family MD's, but my wife and I have been looking for a good pediatrician in the Mission/WestMcAllen area for a while now. Currently, we have to drive close to DHR Hospital; and for an 8am walk-in, it can be a pain.

They seem hard to find. Someone who isn't part of a big practice where it's likely you'll see him/her every time.
We would also prefer a younger doc who is more current with today's new meds.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

My daughter, class of 97, has four kids 8.6. and twins that are 5. She is a teacher so she doesn't have a lot of time sitting around waiting for offices to open, etc. She uses Ashley Pediatrics near the corner of McCall and 10th. I believe that the lead Dr. in the office is Dr. Bose. She has been pretty pleased with the care provided by the Dr.s in the office. Dr. Bose is not always there, since she has four of these clinics.

One really nice thing about the office is that they are open seven days a week and well into the evening. They take most insurance. This is NOT a real fancy place with high prices. If you are looking for something like that, I can give you a couple of suggestions where "only the finest people attend." - But you will pay in money and inconvenience.

I'm not sure if this fits your location requirements.

My experience with kids is that you only find out they are running a fever, while you are at work, on weekends, or at 8pm after school. Most Dr.s are closed at that time or make you wait forever.

Regarding a family physician. My doctor, Noel Lopez, is a sharp cookie and accepts most insurance. He is located near the corner of 10th and Zinnia (I think). He is pretty popular and sometimes you need to wait for a couple of days for an appointment, but they do take walk-ins but it usually means a wait. Even though he is a "sip", he is my friend, and I trust him. He has a Physician's Assistant in the office for smaller things.

Dude, Go with Dr. Zavala, very, very well trained and nice physican, just started her own practice after being in one of those Valley medicar/medicaid mills. She will answer email questions and does all possible to help you out when you are in a bind, very good service, not that bad of waits. She is Venezuelan and trained in New York and I honestly have not been more comfortable and at ease with a doc in the last 25 years. My opinion FWIW.
