Well we're gonna call our rental guy tonight to make sure the house is still good to go tomorrow at SPI. Hopefully it still has a roof and we get to enjoy our week at the beach.

Lost power in mcallen 30 minutes ago. Large tree down on 2nd street blocking 2 lanes. it's amazing how much worse thwew wind sounds when the power is out.

How's the rent house? I'm going to stay in a friends' house in 2 weeks, right down the street from the Bahia Mar. They haven't heard any reports from the management yet.

Power came back on at my house about an hour ago. Just in time! It was starting to get a little warm.

www.aeptexas.com shows 132k still without power today at 11am. Looks like our vacation has an excellent chance of being wiped out after all. I expect Sunday is the very best case date for getting power at the beach.

People with condos are reporting Tues - Wed until power is back at the island. Also, folks are saying only residents are being allowed on the island.

We had plans to stay in our freinds condo on Aug 6-8. He just went down there today and said the carpet is ruined, and the sheetrock has problems. Good news is he found a group of guys from out of state that came in ready to help him fix it. We still don't know if we're going to be able to go, though. Really sucks. I'm wondering when the businesses will get it going again. This has to be killing them. My kids will want to go to Schiltterbahn, and of course, it's closed right now, but don't know if it will be open next week.

I read today that 40% of the island has electricity now, but many places will still need a day to determine how bad the damage is from no electic (once it comes up).

No people there at night to limit looting.

Good news, my friends' place has electricity, and the carpets are drying out. Still has to replace sheetrock.

Went to the Schlitterbahn website and saw some encouraging news...

Clean-up at Schlitterbahn Beach Waterpark on South Padre Island in the aftermath of Hurricane Dolly is moving swiftly. "Due to our pre-storm preparations and the design of the park, Schlitterbahn Beach was fortunate to have received very little physical damage from Hurricane Dolly," according to general manager, Keith Fontenot. "It has mainly been a matter of clean-up and we will be ready to re-open soon after the power is restored," he added.

The park staff has drained and cleaned all of the rivers and pools, washed and wiped down all the surfaces, checked and double-checked all the rides and slides, and tidied up the park's tropical landscaping. Now it's a matter of waiting for full power to be restored. "Utility crews are working rapidly on the island and we expect to have our power on shortly."

That's what I'm going to have to decide tomorrow. Half the issue is if the house will actualy be ready, and the other is just trying to figure out if resturants, shops, will be open. I did read that Schlitterbahn will open Saturday. Sort of a plus that the down is a bit dead. We'd have a blast with little to no lines there.

Go spi. Aransas Pass has all kinds of seaweed on their beaches and the stores are too far away. Spi has electricity now. I would choose them and not think twice. We might come down Saturday afternoon just to get Aransas out of our minds.

Just got off the phone with a guy I know there. He said the beaches have never looked better...sorta "cleaned them out", like after a good rain on your street. And the grocery store there is fully functional!
