Let's see...

The owner of the Smoke Shack was gunned down in a gang killing. That's like a mile from where I work.

A live grenade was thrown into a bar about 2 miles from here (another gang attack).

The owner of a propane business about a mile east of here was killed after a couple of kids got in an argument with him earlier in the day.

Saturday night some kids got into a fight and one got shot in the back less than a mile from here at Cesar Chavez & the expressway.

I was talking to a lady that works at Subway here and she said they had been robbed at gunpoint (forgot to ask her when) and the gun went off! Yes, there were customers in the place at the time.

Dude.

They had AK47s at the gun show last weekend at the Pharr Convention Center. A few more shootouts in Reynosa and they may be bringing it over here! Hopefully we don't get into a position where Mexico = Iraq!

Yea we're trying to decide which gang we're going with. We'll let them tag our wall and in exchange we expect protection.

I forgot to add that a few years ago our janitor was robbed here in the office. His jaw was broken in the attack (pistol whipped). They took his stereo and his cash. Nothing from the office.

And it's sad but the cartel/gangsta influence has grown so much that you can't open a business in Reynosa now without paying protection. At least according to a person that I know that lives there.

we need to annex mexico and be done with all this crazy BS. we could further secure our border, by expanding it further south, and have access to their oil and gas interests which they are not properly exploiting

Got a tip?

>> Anyone with information about these cases is urged to call the San Juan Police Department at (956) 283-8477.

SAN JUAN — Police arrested two teenage suspects Friday in connection with the unrelated slayings of two San Juan businessmen.

David Salinas, 19, of Alamo, was arrested in connection with the Dec. 3 shooting death of Juan Garza at his business Amigo Propane, near the intersection of Cesar Chavez Road and Farm-to-Market Road 495.

Ruben Moreno, 19, of San Juan, was arrested in connection with the Jan. 26 shooting death of Ricardo Bocanegra at his business Smoke Stop Shop, a tobacco store on the 600 block of "I" Road, about three miles from Amigo Propane.

Police conducting a routine traffic stop pulled over Salinas on Friday and realized he was a person of interest in the Garza slaying. During his arrest, police questioned him about the shooting and he confessed to his involvement.

Authorities expected him to be formally charged today with capital murder, driving without a license and evading arrest. If charged with capital murder and later convicted, he could face the death penalty or life in prison.

San Juan police had previously received anonymous tips through their Crime Stoppers hotline indicating four males from the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo area were involved in the shooting: Fernando Medina, Rodolfo Ricalday, Alex Garcia and Salinas.

Police are still looking for Medina, Ricalday and Garcia and consider them armed and dangerous, according to a news release from the San Juan Police Department. All three have violent criminal histories. The department is working with the FBI to locate them and has notified authorities at all U.S. ports of entry to be on the lookout for them.

Investigators have pursued the case since December with few leads, said San Juan police spokesman Rolando Garcia. They previously released information describing the suspects, as well as an audio recording of a desperate 9-1-1 call from one of Garza's employees.

"It has been such a frustrating case," Garcia said.

Police said the shooter approached Garza about 8 p.m. Dec. 3 at the man's fuel business, Amigo Propane, and asked him to fill his gas tank, according to a shop employee who was there at the time.

The would-be customer then asked Garza for money and shot him, Garcia said.

Garza, 63, was the father of a Pharr police investigator and was well-liked in the PSJA area, friends and family said.

"He was the life of the party, a real jokester," said his son Danny Garza, an investigator with the Pharr Police Department. "He liked nothing more than to drink coffee with his compadres in the morning. He lived for life."

Smoke Stop Shop case

In an unrelated homicide case, Moreno was arrested and charged Friday with murder and attempted murder in connection with the gunning down of husband and wife Ricardo and Jennifer Bocanegra, both 27, at their tobacco store. Ricardo Bocanegra succumbed to his injuries, but his wife survived the shooting.

Moreno is currently being held without bond at the Hidalgo County Jail. If convicted of the more serious charge, he could face up to life in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.

Another teen had already been charged with murder in the case. A SWAT team found Elijah Salazar, 19, on Jan. 30 at his brother's house in Elsa and arrested him.

Moreno and Salazar are believed to be among three suspects who participated in the shooting, which left Jennifer Bocanegra severely injured.

San Juan police initially thought the couple was shot during a botched robbery, but officers later received anonymous tips through the department's Crime Stoppers hotline indicating the attack may have been gang-related.

The suspects and Bocanegra appeared to be in rival gangs, according to authorities.

Police spokesman Garcia confirmed Friday that Moreno is a member of the Texas Chicano Brotherhood.

Authorities are still looking for at least one more Hispanic male who may have been involved in the attack.

Other business owners in that neighborhood told The Monitor they had been robbed at gunpoint at their shops in the past.

In May 2008, a Subway restaurant at 700 N. "I" Road was robbed at gunpoint. By November, officers had arrested all the suspects in that case.

And we got tagged again Saturday night. That's 4 times in the past 6 weeks.

Police have detained two men for questioning in connection with the murder of a local businessman.

Although they have not been arrested, Fernando Medina and Rodolfo Ricalday, San Juan Police Department detained the men over the weekend to find out more information regarding the murder of Juan Garza, who owned Amigo Propane, said Inv. Rolando Garcia, the department's spokesman.

Garza was killed at his business, located near the intersection of Cesar Chavez Road and Farm-to-Market Road 495 on Dec. 3.

One man, 19-year-old David Salinas of Alamo, was arrested in connection with the murder. He was arraigned Friday on a capital murder charge and is being held in the Hidalgo County Jail with no bond
