Drug smugglers escape using tire spikes in Los Ebanos

Authorities are searching for drug smugglers who used tire spikes to escape from Border Patrol agents but abandoned almost $1million dollars worth of marijuana.

Border Patrol agents told Action 4 News that the incident happened near the rural Hidalgo County community of Los Ebanos on Wednesday evening.

Investigators said Border Patrol agents spotted a white Ford Explorer leaving the Rio Grande at a high rate of speed.

Border Patrol agents tried to intercept but their tires went flat.

Backup units were able to locate the abandoned SUV on a ranch.

Border Patrol agents found 120 bundles of marijuana worth about $1 million dollars inside.

Drug smugglers have started using road spikes to discourage law enforcement officials.

Anyone with information about their manufacture or sale is asked to call the Hidalgo County

I actually plan on having some of these installed my car. simple concept and very effective. you would think that drug dealers were smarter but like a said, -ish. Personally i am going to out rig my vehicle with as much illegal stuff as possible, but not drugs, stuff like missals, oil, smoke, and spikes.

I ran over some of those spikes over Easter weekend at our farm near Los Ebanos. I dont see how they work since they dont really deflate your tires. I didn't realize what was going on until I got back to our warehouse and saw this bunch of iron nails welded together sticking out of my tire.
