I have never had the lunch tacos but the breakfast ones are pretty damn good from Stripes. Granted i used to get them when they first made them at about 5 or so in the morning.

no question stripes breakfast tacos are best, but i would put them up there with the duck.

zarape for show for the small mexican tacos

my favorite however are from a place called El Taquito in downtown Harlingen. They make un taquito with carne guisada, rice, beans, cheese, lettuce, and tomato. they are so big you have to eat half of it first with a fork from the inside, then you have the taco.

the ones from el taquito are pretty good. they rival a freebird's monster in terms of size. my favorite are probably the tacos norteños from taqueria la mexican in harlingen. there used to be a really good place for breakfast in brownsville. i can't remember the name, but it started with a w. wowie's maybe? the tacos were great and approximately the size of a forearm.

i had some tacos at a friends house today but i'm not sure what they're called. the meat was brisket that had been simmered in various spices and then pulled apart. anybody know what these are called?

Rocha's Bakery on Bryan Rd. in Mission is off the hook. I don't know if they still are this price, but most breakfast tacos were $0.50 and lunch tacos $0.75. They have a $3.99 lunch special that is great.

Try walking in there on any given morning, they wait will be 10-30 minutes to get tacos, they are that good. When the winter Texans are in town it is even worse. Oh, and they have an Aggie daughter.

I really like their food and highly recommend it to anyone.

Isn't Mrs. G's = El Patos. I know that she sold it sometime ago to the Van Burkleos but she was the orginal owner. I agree that it is not quite as good as it used to be but ...the way it used to be would probably have been closed down by the health department now!

Van Burkleos changed ingredients to save money.
Small adjustments make HUGE differences.

The Duck is dead, long live the Duck.

To me there were two cataclysmic deaths during my life in the Valley, the death of Mr. Q. and the death by Gringo of the Duck.

Mrs. G's, on Pecan is still pretty darn good, on a good day it is just like the Duck.

One of the things that spelled H-O-M-E for me was a grease dripping order of CCA, aka Chicken, Cheese and Avocado from the Duck. With an extra tortilla to make 4 and a large Fruit Punch. Ahhh, now that was living, and back in the day under $5.00.

In high school, an order of Beef Potato & Cheese was perfect for lunch... and yes, under $5.00. Actually around $4.00 if memory serves correctly.
