I've been working in the Valley for a few weeks and will be headed out on 77 tomorrow. My cousin specifically requested grapefruits and avacados. Can anyone recommend a good place in Harlingen or a fruit stand on the way out to get some?

Don't know all the in and outs of that side of the Valley but in general I'm sure the products at each fruit stand will be very close to one another.

As you are headed north on 77, right after you get into Willacy County, take the exit right before Sebastian, and there are a couple of fruit stands on the frontage rd. on your right. They will have whatever you need there.

I wish that you could come by my house and I could give you some. I planted a Rio Red in my back yard in 2001 because I love them and now my Dr says I can't eat them because of the junk he makes me take. (I still eat one once in a while.)

OVR, if you had posted before I left the Valley yesterday, I would have totally been up for that.

For the record, I stopped at Gonzales Fruit Stand in Sebastian and picked up 10# of grapefruits for 4.95 and a few pineapple oranges for 59cents/pound. I was very impressed. The young kid there offered to cut open anything I wanted to taste. He said they pick them themselves somewhere nearby. Don't know if it's true, but they were good enough for me to buy!

Now does anybody happen to have a lime tree in their backyard I can raid?
