Laredo is actually really safe. It is in the top 100 cities by size of the US but is nowhere that in crime rate. It is very different and will take getting use to. One thing I will point out is to never try to show superiority to the locals, because it won't end well. Learn the culture and you will fit right in. Also, if your moving to Laredo, do some research on the neighborhoods. Too many people move to the ghetto part of town thinking its the nicer areas because the houses are newer. Poor economy forced developers to move south and therefor having a lot of new houses in the worst parts of town. All in all it is a very nice place if you take the time to learn the culture and ignore all the Mexicans that cross the river and invade our stores.

thanks for the tips. we've got a really good realtor and she's mentioned some of the same things. our first trip down a month ago to find a house was a bust. they go fast. just finished packing up our current house tonight. headed down this weekend to do more house shopping.

Laredo is pretty cool, you should enjoy it. As I mentioned be sure to ask important people you meet if they are members of the Cool Arrow club, as you might want to join. There are lots of Cool Arrows in Laredo.

I was the head 'pinch' Cool Arrow for the southern division before I transferred out. There are still some pretty interesting CA's there.

Pinch Cool Arrow is pretty prestigious deal down south. You really have to put in a lot of effort to get that thrown your way. Sadly, in the grand scheme of things there are a lot of worthless Cool Arrows down south, but you won't know unless you ask them.

It is a prestigious amalgamation of folks, commonly in South Texas and mainly of Hispanic background, but by no means limited to Hispanics. There are a ton of white folks/Gringo's that are Cool Arrows, in fact in the RGV and in South Texas many of the Hispanics consider all Gringo's Cool Arrows.

It is kinda like a club, you just have to ask around. Like I said, when you get down to Laredo, and if you survive the heat, just ask folks if they are a Cool Arrow or not. It is all tied back into the Comanche Indians and such of the area.

Never heard of such Club. Anyway good people in Laredo they will welcome you so be patient and open-minded.

fake club or not, I'm excited about the move. should be closing on the house next week. for some reason, I think I'm gonna enjoy living in Laredo. fairly close to the coast and not too far from West Texas, or maybe it's just the fact of being back in Texas after a couple years in Nebraska.
