I haven't eaten there since last summer but Gabriella's on SPI held the top spot on the island, IMO. Great food, great bar, service typically better than "Island" service.

Duane and Gabi moved back to Oklahoma, those were the original owners. I think Gabi was his wife, I know she named it after her Grandmother. Apparently they left a son down here and possibly owner financed the place to someone.

I don't think they are involved in any more day to day operations at it and I know the family as a whole left the area, they used to live down the street from me/my rental property in PI.

I agree, Gabriella's is/was excellent, I will eat there as well. They had Osso Buco one New Years eve and it was fantabulous. Man it was good. I also like Mexquito in PI and Manuel's is also very good. I used to like Isabella's Cafe, but not so much lately.

By the way, I'm gonna have to go try this cabrito joint y'all are talking about. I work very close to there. Never gave it a second thought.

I have never eaten at Gabriella's but I'll try it. I really don't like Blackbeards very much. But as be all know, we each have our preferences. I take my wife and her mother-in-law down to the island every once in a while so that she can check it out (she is 95) and used to live on the island part time. She and her husband used to own a fishing equipment distributor company (Miracle Lure) and sold most of the fishing stuff on the island. The used to sell to Al back when he just had a bait stand.

Gabriella's is my favorite dinner spot on the island. And the Palms for brunch on the last day before heading home.

OK guys I tried a new place today and recommend it to you. It is in Edinburg on 107 across from utpa and next to the Dairy Queen. It is called the Burrito Bar. It is very similiar to Freebirds but better. They have a really big burrito for about $7 with all the fixins. It has been open for about three weeks and I think you will like it.

Mrs OVR and I each got one yesterday and could only eat half...but I am sure you young folks could eat a whole one.

OK guys, going to the valley for 4 days of training in early June from Alice, will hit Las Vegas on way down Sunday, Monday we (the mrs agdad is tagging along) are going to do an evening dinner cruise on some boat (her idea), tues we will hit Blackbeards and wednesday we will go into brownsville for vermillion, thursday on way home we will do kings inn. That will be our seafood and tex-mex fix for awhile. Hope i got the recommendations correct - I could still work in KoKo's even with the mrs if someone comes through with rule #1 on the cute waitress
