O ye of little faith. After only a few measley years, there are workmen working on the Alamo Draft House and they say that it will be completed in August.

When it opens up please post a picture of it OVR!

How many times have they started and stopped construction?

I think they only stopped once but it was for years!! I actually saw a crane putting AC units on the roof the other day.

I will take a picture and send it to one of you gurus when it is finished because I am not competent to post pictures. I was talking about it to my 5th grade grandaughter and she told me that she wasn't going to that place because the waiters would stand in the way and she wouldn't be able to see the picture show. Sigh...

isn't it now some new flavor of cinemark?

I used to work for a bank that started the initial project and I think we financed two different outfits. The first one had a lot of cost overruns. Don't remember much about the second one. I believe this is the third outfit to try and get this thing going.

Is it still going to serve alcohol and have a regular food menu? If so, I hope they have tacos y lonches.

I had heard it was gonna be a different outfit than Alamo as well. Whoever, it is, I just really hope they are as diligent down here as they are in the other locations about cracking down on idiots talking on phones, acting up, etc. during the movie. I hate going to the movies down here for that reason.

There was an article in the Monitor a month or so ago that said that Cinemark had bought the place so I guess it will ultimately not be the Alamo Draft House (if the paper was right).

I'm not to sure about the complaint about the noise and cell phones is as bad as all that, I don't think I have every had a problem with that in the movie over in Edinburg, or the one Nolana in McAllen. Admittedly I don't go to the show when there are crowds. I like to go in the early afternoon on weekdays to stay away for the crowds. (you too will be retired someday. :-)

They have been working on this building for over a month now. I have noticed big cranes from time to time and they have put up a new name on the front "Cinemark Bistro Movie" if my memory serves me correctly.

There were lots of trucks and people over at the new movie today and they have installed a big new sign as well as a lot of landscaping. Maybe this place is actually going to open before long.

Has anyone said if it will be a regular theater or something akin to an Alamo Drafthouse?

Some of us work for a living and don't have time to click all the links people post on TexAgs.

We visited last night for their soft opening for UTPA employees.

I have never been to a bistro style movie theater and the experience was better than expected. The seats remind me of first class seats on an airline, big and cushy with a tray that swings around for your food.

Large screens and a great bright digital picture. The best part is probably the increased seating area. You have room to stretch out your legs all the way and you have much more space around your seating area so you don't feel crowded by your neighbors.

I will certainly go as often as possible even though I live right by the theater on 2nd and Nolana and I expect it to be a HUGE hit as the first of it's kind in the valley. Way overdue.

I was curious how the Bistro thing worked. It sounded like you order your food out front and then carry it in with you. Seems like you could miss a lot of the show that way. I understand that it is going to open on Aug.30 so I guess I'll go sometime after that.

You order it out front and they bring it to you. Assigned seating which you choose on a computer screen when you buy your tix.
