Anything from Brownsville to Raymondville to Sullivan city. RGC not welcome.

Growing up in Alice during the 60's I was led to believe that Texas was divided into 4 regions. Anything above San Antonio was North Texas, anything south of SA to The Valley was South Texas. The Valley began when you started seeing the orange and grapefruit trees and ended when you got to the border. West Texas was pretty much anything to the west of SA. The locals never referred to it as the Rio Grande Valley, just The Valley.

Same page here. Grew up south of SA, now live southeast of SA. Family land in La Pryor, visit parts of the valley fairly often. I just wanted to know what the consensus of South Texans was, sort of like some people from San Angelo want to say they are in the Panhandle, though to me they are the beginning of West Texas.

To some, I guess RGV is the only constituent of South Texas.
