Does anyone know what the building going up next to the new Starbucks on 281/Trenton is going to be?

I hadn't noticed. Which corner are you talking about...I have no clue where the Starbucks is located? Youre not talking about the rebuilding of El Centro Mall, are you?

New Starby's going up on the corner of 281 and Trenton. Its right in front of Academy.There is now another building going up next to it. Im just curious if it will be finished before the Starbucks since its been going up since October, and is still not yet finished.

Yeah. I drove by today. They are building an IHOP next to Starbucks and a HEB accross the street. Signs are now on both locations.

FYI, Location not yet disclosed...we are getting a Saltgrass. Thank God. All of the other "chain" steak restaurants here suck.

Dave and Busters is coming.

That big hill of dirt at the intersection of Bicentennial and Dove? Gonna be a new Stripes there. Across from it on the north side of Dove? Gonna be some sort of special Grocery store WalMart.

Cabela's wants in McAllen but they wanted the same deal that Harlingen gave Bass Pro Shops. McAllen laughed.

That is very good news. I really like Saltgrass. When we go to visit my son in Plano that is always where we go! I have never been to a Dave and Busters but have heard positive things from the guys in San Antonio about the one out in 10.

The big pile of dirt there on Nolana is going to be something larger than a Stripes but I have no idea what.

Incidentally the Longhorn Steakhouse on North 10th is not too bad.

Saltgrass is taking over the old mimis location or its going up near jackson and the expressway where pharr tore down a school (nesr costco). I have heard both versions.

Work on a Main Event has already started at el centro mall. If u dont know what that is think dave and busters.

And ive heard HEB might build a an upscale store where the holidome used to stand. I find it hard to believe a grocery store would produce enough for a piece of land that expensive.

We need a Whole Foods here badly!! The health food stores down here absolutely suck.

I saw that they had pretty well cleaned up the old Holidome site and was wondering what was going in there. I sure seems like that site is not big enough for an HEB with the associated parking. There was never enough parking when it was a hotel!

My sources have told me it will be at the old Mimi's location on the exp in McAllen.

I can confirm OX. A buddy of mines construction company is doing the remodel.

So the Outback closed? That location sucked.

I don't think Outback is closed. I took my M-I-L to eat there about two weeks ago and the place was packed.

They shut it down for good on Sunday.

Wow. Yeah, that location was really bad.

Sure must have been mismanaged because everytime I went there it was full of people. I have to agree that it was in a poor location. We had started to go to the Longhorn on N 10th lately, the food was better and it was much more convenient.

Well, we are gonna have Saltgrass and that would have trumped it anyway. Too bad it is going to be 20 minutes away.

Outback in McAllen/Pharr shutdown? Wow, that sucks. No place else to get reasonable lamb chops in McAllen anymore then.

I know for years that Outback did very, very well and was very profitable.

I would bet it has something to do with the re-development of what is going on across from there at the old El Centro Mall.

A guy I went to HS with was the chef/kitchen manager there for years. I don't know about the last few years, because I have not seen him in a while, but he told me that at one time that Outback was the top Outback for it's size and operating schedule, no lunch during the week.

During the Mexican time of year that SOB was jam packed with Mexicans and they ate and drank a plenty there.

I wonder if that is a land lease building or something? Maybe the owners decided to not go forward with a new or extended lease so as to go into a new place across the way or something. I do know that Pappadeux has cost them a ton of business.

Strolled into the Outback the Saturday before closing with my family. Dollar beers though. Had me a oil can for a buck. It's a corporate issue, they've recently hired a firm specializing in prepping companies for bankruptcy.

I was a little disappointed when Ruby Tuesday's closed down out on N. 10th. I knew the owner pretty well (another one of the kids that used to frequent my office at McHi). I asked him why and he said the they always knew it was going to be a crap shoot and eventually the competition kept lowering prices till they couldn't compete.

I can't wait for Saltgrass to open up. The one in Plano is excellent. Went to Freebirds today after a long time and they have turned the volume of the music down so you can actually hear in there.

Yep they are currently working on the new Saltgrass. Looks like it will be a few weeks. Maybe not terribly long.

If I am not mistaken wasn't that Outback owned by a varied group of investors? I think it was at one time. A buddy of mine rented an apartment to one of the owners, a couple who had come down to open it up and manage it for year or so and then they went back to where they were from or something.
