Looks like he pulled an all nighter. Lots of parts of the Valley are underwater today. Prayers for y'all.

No power for me in Harlingen since about 7:30 last night. Lost a little bit of fence that I've already done some repairs on, but otherwise nothing bad. Rained all night and pouring right now.

Long night and morning. We live about half way between McAllen and Edinburg. I was not expecting the storm that we got. In the past hurricanes that blow in up toward Corpus have not amounted to much but that is certainly not the case this time.

The rain and wind picked up rapidly about nightfall. I am a ham radio operator and I have a 130 foot guyed tower in my back yard. I am always concerned if I get strong winds (which we seldom get). We ended up with about 70 MPH winds all night a part of the morning. I am estimating that we go about 10" or more rain. Yards and roads in Mcallen are pretty inundated. I lost a 50 foot Ash tree in the back yard but there was no damage from that. Lots of broken limbs, and palm fronds. It is a big mess. I bet the tree guys in town are going to to a land office business with all the trees I saw down when I got out for a few minutes. Neighbor across the street lost 8 trees in his yard.

Not been a good year for this old AG. Lightning strike at the house a couple of months ago and now the hurricane and the virus

Power was out for about 15 hours (Magic Valley) and finally on so that I can see what the weather guys have to say for themselves! :-)
All organizations are perfectly aligned for the results they get.

OVR, glad all related to life and limb is well. Sorry to hear about the damage. Didn't fare much better in south McAllen than you did. City improved the drainage on our street due to it flooding down towards 10th street. Which it doesn't do any more for certain, but when they did that our end of the cul de sac now has high water and it put pressure on one of our brick walls and the footings shifted, I believe, and about a 50' section collapsed. Not good. We have been telling the city for months, and I am POed.

I didn't think this storm would have been this sporty, but it was.

Bah so sorry to hear about your damage. Sucks.

We were fine in N McAllen. No power for 14 hours but otherwise just a little flooding and a huge bush that blew over.

Monterrey Airport has reported 16.3 inches of rain in the past 24 hours.

Yeah man, the Mexican side takes a big time beating with any rain. After years of being around the area I am convinced that they subscribe to the "ojala que no llueva" school of flood control and drainage improvements.

It is just comically absurd to think that the amount of decent development that has taken place in cities like Monterrey and Reynosa could not include drainage and flood control. Or at least a serious learned attempt at it. It is just embarrassing.

My parents "evacuated" from the RGV to Monterrey for Gilbert in 88', they were stuck there for 5 days without being able to leave, the flooding and mayhem was impressive to say the least.

For years I have said that a slow moving 20+" rain maker that comes up the river will wreak absolute devestation on the Mexican side. The Valley will be bad, but the Mexican side will be a catastrophe.

Second on the thank you to PJ Young. Much appreciated.

Still no power. AEP came out and some neighbors have power since yesterday and many don't. Not sure why they would not complete the entire area before leaving.

Glad to help and sorry about the lack of power. I've only been without for like a day or two with Dolly back in 2008 and that was plenty.

Getting that southern eyewall is what kept waking me up between 10 and 2 Saturday night. Our bedroom has french doors that connect to our back porch facing South and those gusts that must have been 70mph felt like they were gonna bust those doors open again and again.

PJ:

My man, you are back. Your biggest weather fan is now giving you rapt attention.

Both those areas are "down low", which historically have produced most of the storms that come into the South Texas area.

I am trying to post a screen shot of a hurricane track search that I did. But I can't figure out how to do it. It will be interesting to track.

Models are all over the place with that westernmost Invest. Tracks from the Bay of Campeche to the Florida Keys.

These should update automatically. 97L is the one that *could* be the one to watch for us but I am guessing it will be a problem for the central gulf coast. 98L seems Florida or East Coast bound. Still really early.

97L

98L

That is not looking too good for the Gulf Coast. Hope it does not turn into a Hurricane.

13 is supposed to be a hurricane that hits Florida and then the central gulf coast.

14 has a lot of questions still. Maybe a cat 1, maybe remains a TS.

I don't think predictions are too accurate until storms come out from over the Yucatan. Many have changed paths and all change strength. Especially TS's and TD's.

I have gotten caught in two storms down in that area that followed no portion of the forecast, on basically spun up with hardly any advance warning.

I don't try to predict these anymore, but anything coming off the Yucatan needs to be watched real close by all in Texas, especially slow moving storms.
PJYoung

Yeah it's still early. As an example - they re-located the center on TS Laura this morning further south which pushed the landfall forecast further west.
