Somebody mentioned Lake Cherokee. Depending on which part of the lake, you've got some pretty questionable folks out there. The folks next door to my parents place are on the odd spectrum.

Wow, just found this thread. I grew up in Upshur Co. , went to Harmony High, worked for years in Pittsburg. Reading this thread is like reading my own biography. Awesome stuff.

Weird must include heavy woods, red dirt inclines, a lake, many guns and dogs, and Baptist churches within walking distance

Tyler / Longview vie for capital of East Texas and Tyler wins, mostly because its main drag is pleasant

Biggest problem in NE is no HEB, sorry Brookshires sucks, and Fresh sucks too compared to Central Market, though you feel bad about thinking this because half of your Baptist church has worked there

Tyler is sociallites

Longview is Yuppies

Kilgore is redneck

Henderson is a smaller Tyler

East Texas field is ....East Texas

There are no weird towns in East Texas. Weird describes another area though.

Uncertain and Karnack make Longview look yuppie.

Went to Longview and then Beaumont last week for work. Driving down to Beaumont, I went through a small town, I think it was Huntington, that gave me a headache,from presumably a paper mill. There was also a massive smoke cloud just south of town. The only other place to make me ill was Evadale.

Not one mention of Livingston. And I wonder about the Pines being a divider because The Woodlands exists. Though no one would consider that East Texas so maybe it's inherently excluded.

Where does Paris fall? I saw Powderly mentioned as out there along with all of Delta County. Paris sits between those....

I just moved back to my home town in the very southern boundary: Silsbee. The paper mill in Evadale is still going strong, BTW.

Someone mentioned Powderly. Powderly is not a town...just a rural area north of Paris. I was born at Cooper in Delta County, south of Paris. I recently visited a first cousin who lives in rural Delta County. She also is second cousin. Her mother-deceased- was my first cousin once removed and my aunt. Top that!

If you don't like the smell, give up your Starbucks and aseptic containers - Evadale is one of the primary suppliers of paper based food packaging in the country. ( I may have worked there and know a little about what they make). Everybody hates the way a paper mill smells but loves their Amazon packaging!

Henderson/Longview type places are redneck ****holes. Nice if that's what you're looking for I suppose.
