YouBet, was it in Corrigan? Cuz there is an older pickup that usually has lights on it on display there.

Between Diboll and Lufkin, there is an old-time tractor that sometimes has lights on it. I don't remember if it was decorated this year, but it is right on 59.

No, it was a Ford pickup driving around Longview.

It is what you make it, as time goes by, you will love ever minute of it.

Having lived all over the world, we made the mistake of moving back to our east texas hometown after my retirement from the military. I have never seen so many hillbillies and white trash around this place. Redneck attitudes as well as backwoodsy biases galore. And God forbid you should be any color other than white! Needless to say we will be moving back to a civilized location very soon.

I was in L'view for the weekend visiting my parents and went to PETCO to get my dog some food. It was a stage for all that is East Texas. Absolutely hilarious.

I'm from Carthage too. My parents still live there. It's pretty dull but I'd still take it over Austin. I hate it here.

That's why I now live in College Station. I loved being raised in East Texas, but, been there, done that. I just don't think I could go home again. Still like to visit------but.

I thought it was boring when i would go home and visit the folks in Tyler, but then they moved 600 miles across the state to the emptiness that is the Big Bend region. Man I miss Tyler now.

College Station is basically Lufkin, Longview, and Tyler with a big university.

wrong!!! college station has a different atmosphere from "east texas" once you get out from the pine trees, it all changes. Plus college station is technically east-central texas...not east texas.

I'm from Lufkin. CS is basically a Houston exurb -- complete with tons of chain stores -- with a big flagship university. It will take many years to match an atmosphere like State College, Ann Arbor, etc. Too many chains and lots of mass construction.

uhh... CS dwarfs State College, PA and Ann Arbor is an extension of ghetto ass Detroit.

I live in Columbus, OH... I am well aware of these towns and their inhabitants.

joerains... please don't lump Lufkin in with Longview and Tyler... As bad as east texas is, Lview and Tyler are much more cooler than Lufkin.

Guy's and girl's, things could be so much worse, you could be from louisana, so be thankful.

Louisiana is more fun than east texas. Liquor in the gas stations, gambling, easier women...

Great crime rates, roads, governments, etc...

I didn't say the quality of life was better... I just said the "fun factor" and entertainment is better.

Why do so many people feel the need to dump on other towns? Especially the ones where you grew up?

I grew up in a very small E.TX town and after graduating from A&M moved to Dallas. I lived in Dallas and worked downtown for eight years. I had a very nice career going, but one day I just realized I didn't want to live there anymore. I kinda felt like I'd been to the Big Show and seen what it had to offer. Now I was ready to move back to where I felt at home. I was mature enough that I didn't feel like I needed to live in a cosmopolitan area in order to feel smart and sophisticated anymore. And above all, I new I didn't want my kids to grow up in a large city.

I thank God every day he provided me with a means to return home and continue to earn a good living. Our quality of life is so much greater now than it ever could have been in Dallas, I simply can't describe it.
